Carpenter - Greenland

Polar Field Services, Inc. is looking to hire a seasonal Carpenter to maintain, repair, and build National Science Foundation-funded structures in the Arctic. Are you an adventurous, skilled carpenter looking for exciting seasonal work in a beautiful, remote environment? This seasonal carpentry position earns a competitive wage of $1,900 to $2,400 per week. Our Carpenters also receive an hourly health and welfare benefit of $4.22/hour for the first 40 hours worked each week (included in the weekly salary listed.). ABOUT POLAR FIELD SERVICES, INC. We are a rare company. Since 1999, we've been taking our clients wherever they need to go, no matter how remote the location or challenging the conditions may be. We plan their expeditions, keep them safe in places that are anything but, and supply food, shelter, power, water, and waste removal. We then return the site to such a pristine condition no one would ever know we were there. We haven't been everywhere. Just a lot of places most people haven't. A DAY IN THE LIFE OF A CARPENTER As a Carpenter, you are deployed to a remote research station in Greenland, where you conduct skilled carpentry work on a variety of structures. Working in a harsh, unpredictable, and underdeveloped environment, you will use power saws, drills,and a variety of other materials and tools to demobilize facilities and prepare for onward transport. You will use your skills to evaluate facilities and help to develop work planning for outyear repair projects. In addition you manage your inventory of tools and materials and help to coordinate exchanges with other departments as necessary. Help maintain a safe, clean work environment. QUALIFICATIONS FOR A CARPENTER 4+ years of experience in most phases of carpentry, including rough framing (both wood and steel framing) and finish carpentry Ability to read design drawings and build to precise specifications Ability to travel to and reside in Greenland for an extended period of time Ability to work in harsh, unpredictable outdoor conditions and extremely cold temperatures High school diploma or equivalent Valid driver's license Experience with deep field camp construction is preferred. First aid training and experience in remote, cold, or polar environments would be a plus. Accredited OSHA training course completion is preferred as well. WORK SCHEDULE Deployments vary in length and usually occur between April through August. This seasonal skilled trade position works 54-hour weeks, Monday - Saturday.
