Medical Laboratory Technician

Job Description Position Summary:The Medical Laboratory Technician performs routine and complex laboratory tests in clinical chemistry, hematology, microbiology, immunology, urinalysis, and transfusion services. The MLT ensures accurate, timely test results that support patient diagnosis, treatment, and monitoring. This role requires strong technical skills, adherence to quality and safety standards, and the ability to work collaboratively within a healthcare team.Essential Duties & ResponsibilitiesLaboratory Testing & AnalysisPerform routine and specialized laboratory tests following established protocols and regulatory guidelines.Operate, maintain, and troubleshoot laboratory instruments and analyzers.Verify, record, and report test results accurately within required timeframes.Recognize abnormal or critical values and promptly notify appropriate clinical personnel.Quality Control & AssuranceConduct daily quality control testing; document, interpret, and respond to QC results.Participate in proficiency testing and maintain compliance with CLIA, CAP, COLA, or other regulatory standards.Follow established quality assurance practices to ensure test accuracy and precision.Specimen Collection & ProcessingCollect blood and non-blood specimens following proper phlebotomy technique and safety guidelines.Receive, label, and process specimens to ensure integrity and viability for testing.Maintain chain‐of‐custody and ensure proper storage and disposal.Instrumentation & MaintenancePerform preventive maintenance and calibration on laboratory equipment.Document maintenance tasks according to laboratory procedures.Report equipment malfunctions and assist with resolving technical issues.Safety & ComplianceFollow all laboratory safety protocols including PPE use, chemical handling, and biohazard disposal.Maintain clean, organized work areas and comply with OSHA and infection‐control standards.Participate in safety drills and mandatory in‐service training.Communication & CollaborationCommunicate effectively with healthcare providers regarding specimen requirements, testing processes, and results.Work collaboratively with coworkers to ensure continuous workflow and high-quality patient care.Assist with training new staff or students when applicable.Required QualificationsEducationAssociate degree in Medical Laboratory Technology or related field from a NAACLS‐accredited program.CertificationASCP (MLT), AMT (MLT), or equivalent preferred or required depending on facility.ExperienceClinical laboratory experience preferred; new graduates considered.Knowledge, Skills & AbilitiesStrong understanding of laboratory principles, methodologies, and instrumentation.Ability to perform testing with precision and attention to detail.Proficient in laboratory information systems (LIS) and electronic health records.Excellent critical thinking and problem‐solving abilities.Effective communication and teamwork skills.Ability to work in fast‐paced environments and handle multiple priorities.Company DescriptionHaak'u Health Center, formally Acoma/Canoncito/Laguna (ACL) Clinic is now hiring!
