Electrical Systems Installer

Summary:Using blueprints, diagrams, engineering drawings, specifications, bills of material and other written instructions or procedures, this position assembles, constructs, inspects and repairs electrical systems within components of various firetrucks according to required specifications.Essential Duties and Responsibilities:Using a variety of tools, assemble electrical systems for a fire truck, which can include:Installing and routing of harnesses and fuse panelsMounting and wiring electrical modules such as light bars, sirens, lights, ECUsTermination of wires utilizing butt-splices and connectorsTest, or assist in testing, the operation of completed electrical systems.Read, interpret, and follow basic blueprints, diagrams, engineering drawings, specifications, bills of materials, and other written instructions or procedures to accurately assemble equipment and products.Identify product defects and complete appropriate documentation when defects are discovered.Rework and/or repair assembled equipment and products according to engineering specification changes.Perform all work in accordance with quality standards and established safety procedures.Maintain a clean and safe workplace and always perform work safely.Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned.Qualifications:High school diploma or GED.Prefer 2-5 years' experience in heavy truck electrical systems, including electrical wiring and installation.Basic knowledge and understanding of 12-volt electrical systems.Ability to read, interpret and understand electrical schematics and printsAbility to use analytical thinking and reasoning to problem-solve.Ability to effectively organize assigned work so that job tasks are performed efficiently, accurately, according to scheduleBasic computer navigation and utilization skills and knowledge.High degree of attention to detail, self-motivation, and ability to work with minimal supervision.General Physical Requirements:Light to moderate work - required to exert up to 30 lbs. of force regularly up to 40 lbs. of force occasionallyWorking Conditions:This position is subject to an inside working environment and will be exposed to:noise - loud, sharp, extended, impulse; up to, and occasionally more than, 85dBA (which may use of hearing protection,)vibration - directed to hands, wrists, elbows, shoulders from the use of electric and pneumatic (impact) hand tools of varying sizeshazards - electric current; oils and lubricants; moving mechanical parts; chemical cleaners and solvents; sharp edges on stainless steel and other components and metal shavings airborne dust, occasional intense light from welding in work area or adjacent work areas; working on elevated platforms, ladders, and scaffoldsPhysical Activities, Ergonomic Considerations:standing, walking for majority of work shiftreaching in any direction, above and below shoulder levellifting, carrying, pulling, pushing objects weighing up to 40 lbs.performing work in a crouched, squatting, kneeling, or stooped position (body bent forward and down from waist) for extended periods of timecrawling under trucks and truck chassis and performing precision work while laying prone or crouched with arms raised upwards, for extended periodsrepetitive grasping, pinching with fingers; repetitive pulling, pushing, twisting of wrists, elbows, and shouldersbalancing while on an elevated platform, ladder, or scaffoldstepping up to work surfaces up to 26 inches in height.
