SkyWest’s passengers and employeesDevelopment, operation, and continuous improvement of the SkyWest SMS to ensure compliance with 14 CFR Part 5 and AC 120-92 (current version)Manage the SMS processes within the Safety Department and monitor the Company SMSOversight of the Internal Evaluation division of the Safety DepartmentOversight of the Security and Environmental division of the Safety DepartmentResponsibilities:Collaborating with the (Managing) Director Safety to develop, accomplish, and evaluate Safety Department goals and strategyAssisting the (Managing) Director Safety with coordination and interface of SkyWest’s SMS and IEP information with the SkyWest CMOMaintaining oversight of the development, implementation, and revisions for SMS, Security and Environmental, and IEP related manuals, forms, training materials, and communicationEnsuring program level evaluations are completed as scheduledEnsuring external evaluations [e.g., Department of Defense (DOD), IATA Operational Safety Audit (IOSA), partner] are coordinated through the Safety DepartmentMaintaining oversight of the SMS processes to include:Implementation, maintenance, and day-to-day administration of the SMSMeeting frequently with department Safety Managers to coordinate safety risk management (SRM)Performing hazard identification and safety risk analysisEnsuring communication and coordination with affected personnel in the management of operational riskOverseeing the SRM process with Safety Department process ownersOverseeing the day-to-day operation of the SMS in collaboration with the department Safety Managers, Coordinators, and AnalystsEnsuring focus audits are conducted as requested/requiredRepresenting SkyWest Airlines at industry SMS conferences and other events to gather and share best practicesOverseeing the SRM databaseEnsuring safety promotion throughout SkyWest AirlinesEnsuring all SMS, Security and Environmental, and IEP policies, procedures, and processes (to include training programs) are implemented and performing as requiredSupervising the Manager Security and Environmental Programs, Manager Internal Evaluation Program, and the Coordinator SMSDuties:Reviewing and analyzing SMS, Security and Environmental, and IEP information provided to SkyWest leadership to ensure quality, accuracy, and timelinessMaintaining regular communication with SkyWest directors to ensure SMS, Security and Environmental, and IEP objectives are being accomplished within their departmentsParticipating in quarterly Safety Department manager meetings, ESBs, Safety Round Tables (SRTs), and Data Analysis Group (DAG) meetingsParticipating in industry and mainline partner safety committee calls, and other meetings as assignedAssisting with planning, executing, and responding to IATA Operational Safety Audit (IOSA), Department of Defense (DOD), FAA, and partner-specific auditsAssisting with reviewing and responding to FAA, TSA, and other regulatory compliance investigationsFacilitating the departmental SMS calls and meetingsDeveloping and facilitating SMS training coursesTraining SkyWest leaders and employees on their SMS roles and responsibilitiesCoordinating and designing continuous improvement initiatives for the SMSParticipating in Company safety calls and meetings as requested/requiredPerforming data collection for the Internal Evaluation Program (IEP)Developing and updating the Company SMS continuous improvement initiativesSupporting SMS initiatives by:Being designated as a Safety Department point-of-contact for SMS developmentEnsuring SMS processes are established, implemented, maintained, and integratedFacilitating hazard identification and safety risk analysisEnsuring promotion of safety expectations throughout the organizationRegularly reporting to the (Managing) Director Safety on the performance of the SMS and on any need for improvementBi-Weekly: Reporting the status of the Company SMS, Security and Environmental, and IEP initiatives to the (Managing) Director SafetyMonthly: Tracking and reporting Company and departmental SMS, Security and Environmental, and IEP performance and continuous improvement initiativesMonthly: Participating in SMS performance review meetings with SkyWest’s FAA leadership teamAt least annually: Reviewing and facilitating Company SMS, Security and Environmental, and IEP training content to ensure compliance with all applicable regulationsAt least annually: Reviewing (and updating as needed) Safety Management System (SMS) Manual, Safety Department Safety Program Manual, Internal Evaluation Program Manual, and Security and Environmental ManualsCompleting additional assignments as requested by the (Managing) Director SafetyMinimum RequirementsAt least three years of aviation or airline experienceFull understanding of aviation safety standards and safe operating practices, Federal Aviation Regulations (FARs), SkyWest Operations Specifications (Ops Specs), and SkyWest Safety ProgramsExcellent verbal and written communication and interpersonal skillsAbility to simultaneously manage multiple projects and effectively manage timeHighly proficient with the entire Microsoft Office SuiteDemonstrated attention to detailStrong business acumen and knowledge of airline industry and internal work groupsAirline safety management experienceCollege degree preferredPhysical And Other RequirementsAbility to sit and work at a computer for extended periods of time.
