Automotive Mechanic

Automotive Mechanics are characterized by their ability to analyze and diagnose the cause of breakdowns and faulty mechanical performance and then perform major mechanical, hydraulic and electrical repairs on the following, but not limited to: engines (gas and diesel), clutches, torque converters, drive lines, chassis, brakes, steering and accessories. The vehicles and equipment can include, but are not limited to: ten wheel dump trucks, pickups, automobiles, school buses, graders, loaders, dozers, pavers, excavators, rollers, tractors, cranes and other equipment. This work may be performed in the field as well as the garage.Job QualificationsThorough working knowledge of the practices, techniques and terminology of the trade; good manual dexterity; demonstrated ability to analyze, diagnose and repair difficult mechanical, electrical and hydraulic problems on heavy automotive and other equipment; ability to read and understand technical maintenance manuals, circuit diagrams and blueprints; ability to understand and follow written and oral instructions; ability to weld and braze; ability to keep accurate, clear, legible records; ability to lift 50 pounds; physical condition commensurate with demands of the position.Bus driver experience preferred.Civil Service Title: Automotive MechanicJob Number: mech12825
