Carroll, Chicago, IL 60624Position SummaryThe High School Coordinator will work with the Director of High School and Post-Secondary Programs to provide high quality services and programs to local high school students (ages 14-18).Essential Responsibilities/FunctionsHost High School Hangout Outreach NightPlan and host weekly skill building programs for high school teensManage teen employment programs along with the directorCoordinate year-round, group mentoring groups for middle school and high school studentsCreate and/or source culturally relevant curriculum for group mentoring program.Recruit students for high school programming.Work with the Volunteer Engagement team to recruit and train volunteersCoordinate youth stipends for participationCollaborate with the team to help facilitate and host mentoring initiatives and programsCollaborate with arts, tech and sports programs to provide services for high school youthCollaborate with the Behavioral Health team to refer students and families in crisisParticipate in special events pertaining to high school students and the agency at largeProvide support services opportunities for transitions between middle and high school as well as high school to post-secondarySupport college and career students as they transition into adulthood with ongoing relational support, care packages, check-ins, etc.Create learning and development opportunities for youth ages 13 – 24Collaborate with partner organizations to enhance high school and post-secondary opportunitiesMonitor and provide support to college scholarship recipientsConduct college visits and facilitate college exposure opportunities for high school studentsSupport middle school youth, families, and program staff to provide input and direction for the next phase of lifeParticipates daily in the Nettie Bailey Student Achievement Program (K-8th after school program) including team meetings, classroom/event oversight, lesson planning, instruction, student engagement and interventionsPerforms other duties and tasks assignedDemonstrated ValuesIndependently follows agency policy and proceduresFollows through with commitments including meeting established timelinesIdentifies and resolves difficult issuesProject a professional image to all internal and external customers ensuring proper grooming, dress and hygiene.Promote customer care through all actions and behaviorsWorks effectively with diverse staff, communities and population served Maintain a high degree of sensitivity, tact, and diplomacy during stressful situations.A passion for the mission of BreakthroughQualificationsMinimum of two years of experience in education, social work, ministry or another human services field is preferredMinimum of 2 years of experience with urban teens is requiredDemonstrates comfort and skill using basic computer software such as Microsoft Word, Excel and Outlook as well as other Windows based programsRequired Knowledge, Skills & AbilitiesCommunicate effectively, both orally and in writing.Knowledge of trauma informed programmingKnowledge of urban issues regarding youth and familiesAbility to demonstrate strong interpersonal skills, professionalism and problem-solving skills.Promote client care through all actions and behaviorsProject a professional image to all internal and external customers ensuring correct grooming.Ability to demonstrate initiative and follow-through and be comfortable working in a changing environmentDemonstrate a willingness to consistently improve work performance through relationships and guidanceMust possess an accurate and informed understanding of cultural and urban realities, especially as related to youth, families, poverty, and community development.SUPERVISIONSupervises high school employeesDirection received from the Director of High School and Postsecondary ProgramsPhysical Requirements And Working ConditionsWork EnvironmentWhile performing the duties of this job, the employee will work in an office located in a multi-purpose facility and/or outdoors and thus will be exposed to weather conditions prevalent at the time. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate but can be high depending on the activities in the facility.Physical DemandsWhile performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to walk and/or sit; use hands and fingers to feel objects, tools or controls, reach with hands and arms; balance; stoop; regularly talk or hear. The employee must be able to bend, stoop, pull, lift as well as have overhead extension of arms. Must be able to stand for long periods of time; be able to lift, carry or move at least 50 pounds. Must adhere to proper handling and lifting techniques.
