Functional Tester Design Engineer

Base is rebuilding electricity infrastructure through distributed battery networks. This role owns the design, maintenance, and continuous improvement of end-of-line functional testers for high-volume electromechanical assemblies, with primary focus on production support and secondary focus on new tester development. What You'll Do Own day-to-day support of end-of-line functional testers on the production floor, including debugging test failures, analyzing yield, and root-causing false rejects Perform electrical engineering design for functional testers including schematic capture, PCBA design, fixturing, harnessing, power, and interconnect from prototype to high-volume production Develop and maintain functional test software in Python on Linux for prototype testers; write requirements and collaborate on firmware for production testers Select and integrate measurement approaches including DAQ systems, programmable loads, source meters, sensors, and CAN/serial communications to the device under test Ensure accurate test data capture and reliable upload to test databases to support yield analysis and traceability What You Need 2–5 years of experience designing functional or end-of-line testers for electromechanical assemblies, ideally in high-volume manufacturing Strong electrical engineering fundamentals with ability to independently perform hardware design including schematics, PCBA, fixturing, power, and interconnect Proficiency in Python on Linux for test automation, instrument control, and test sequencing Hands-on experience with measurement and instrumentation systems including DAQ, programmable loads, source meters, and digital communications protocols (CAN, serial) Strong debugging skills across hardware, firmware, and software to quickly root-cause failures on live production lines Nice to Have Experience optimizing high-volume testers for cycle time and throughput Familiarity with test data infrastructure and databases for storing and analyzing production results Background reducing false-reject rates and improving yield through measurement and fixture improvements Experience standing up testers quickly for prototype or early-production builds J-18808-Ljbffr
