School Building Custodian

Qualifications: Experience and skill in cleaning, electricity, plumbing, HVAC, general maintenance and repair of equipment; experience in custodial services Position Location and Schedule: Putnam County Junior High - Monday through Friday (Evening Shift) Responsibilities: 1. General Housekeeping a. Sweep or vacuum assigned areas b. Dust furniture in assigned areas c. Clean hallways, cafeteria, and gymnasium daily and as needed during the day d. Wet mop and disinfect toilet floors daily e. Clean all sanitary fixtures daily f. Wash all windows both inside and outside at least twice a year and more frequently if necessary g. Keep all floors in a clean and attractive condition at all times with wet mopping at least weekly h. Check and clean restrooms throughout the school day i. Clean kitchen and cafeteria after breakfast and again after lunch has been served j. Perform scheduled summer cleaning prior to the beginning of the school year k. Clean water fountain daily and as needed l. Take out all trash daily 2. Building Maintenance a. Keep the building clean and neat b. Regulate heat, ventilation, and air conditioning systems to provide temperatures appropriate to the season and to ensure economical usage of fuel, water, and electricity c. Check daily to ensure that exit doors are accessible d. Assist in the security of the building by locking exterior doors e. Make mechanical building repairs as needed f. Report major repairs needed promptly to the Principal and Director of Facilities g. Provide regularly scheduled maintenance for all motors and other mechanical equipment h. Conduct periodic inspections and tests of all electrical installations in the school to ensure their safe condition i. Complete monthly review of all fire extinguishers 3. Grounds Maintenance a. Keep premises including sidewalks, driveways, and play areas neat and clean at all times b. Shovel, plow, and salt walks, driveways, parking areas and steps as appropriate c. Raise the United States flag at or before 8:00 AM each workday and lower it at or after 3:00 PM d. Keep grounds free from rubbish e. Perform all yard keeping chores, including grass cutting and tree trimming, as assigned to maintain the school grounds in a safe and attractive condition 4. Other Duties a. Immediately report damage to school property to the Principal b. Remain on the school premises during school hours and during non-school hours when the use of the building has been authorized and attendance is required by the Principal c. Assume responsibility for the opening and closing of the building each school day and, before leaving, ensure that all doors and windows are secured and all lights except those left on for safety reasons are turned off d. Conduct an on-going program of general maintenance, upkeep, and repair e. Move furniture or equipment within buildings as required f. Comply with local laws and procedures for the storage and disposal of trash, rubbish, and waste g. Receive and store all school supplies received during shift h. Perform related duties as assigned Risk Management Responsibilities 1. Collaborate with supervisors to develop and maintain safe conditions for the well-being of students, faculty, employees, volunteers, and visitors. 2. Adhere to safety guidelines outlined in the District Risk Management Plan. 3. Implement necessary precautions to ensure the safety of physical property, including equipment, materials, and facilities. 4. Identify and report hazardous conditions that may pose a risk to individuals or property. 5. Monitor and report unauthorized persons or suspicious items on school property. 6. Identify and report signs of neglect or abuse in students based on physical condition or behavior. 7. Adhere to all federal, state, local, and District policies and procedures. 8. Maintain confidentiality of student information.
