We are seeking a Homepage Editor to join the California Post team.The Homepage Editor will be part of the digital team, working alongside other Homepage Editors and Associate Digital Editors to package stories and ensure the homepage reflects all top news developments. This role will focus on curating and updating the homepage with sharp headlines, compelling visuals, and clear editorial focus, while closely tracking story performance in real time.The Homepage Editor will adjust placement, framing, and packaging as needed to maximize reach and engagement, and will collaborate with reporters and editors across desks to ensure the homepage consistently delivers the most timely and impactful news coverage. Homepage Editors must be multi-skilled journalists, with the ability to pitch, write and report news stories when needed.Application Instructions: Applicants should submit applicable work samples/clips for consideration.Responsibilities:Program the homepage, balancing the most important, engaging, and attention-grabbing stories of the momentUse analytics to guide decisions while keeping the needs of our core audience front and centerCollaborate with editors across departments to ensure seamless coverage and story presentationServe as a go-to resource for digital publishing best practices across the newsroomPitch stories of interest to the California Post audience across all sectionsTrack performance in real time, making adjustments to maximize reach and engagementWrite, report and edit storiesRequirements:At least 5 years of experience as a breaking news/digital editor in a fast-paced online newsroomTrack record of managing or programming a homepage, ensuring balanced coverage across verticals and highlighting the most important stories of the momentStrong editorial judgment and communication skills, with a proven ability to prioritize and package stories that drive digital engagementHands-on experience with WordPress is required, with comfort navigating a CMS under deadline pressureProven ability to write sharp, web-friendly headlines that are optimized for both readers and search enginesDemonstrated familiarity with SEO best practices and how they inform digital publishing strategyExperience using analytics tools such as Parse.ly to monitor performance in real time and adjust story framing, placement, and packaging accordinglyAbility to leverage visuals, multimedia, and social media to enhance stories and maximize reachComfort working in a highly collaborative environment with editors, reporters, and digital producers, and flexibility to work nights and weekends as news demands Note: This role will be expected to report on-site 5 days per week.Equal Opportunity EmployerAll qualified applicants will receive consideration for employment without regard to race, color, religion, sex, age, national origin, protected veteran status, disability status or any other protected characteristic.
