ABM is seeking an experienced Lead HVAC Technician to oversee day-to-day field execution of commercial and industrial HVAC projects. This role is primarily field-based and responsible for supervising technicians and subcontractors, coordinating daily work activities, enforcing safety and quality standards, and ensuring projects are installed according to scope, schedule, and specifications. The Lead HVAC Technician is a working leader who provides direct oversight in the field, supports project management teams, and serves as the primary on-site authority for workmanship, safety, and productivity. This position also supports the project management function with budgeted cost, contracted scope and completed execution of services on-time; it does not carry full project financial ownership or P&L responsibility but is focused on quality and execution, rather than administrative project management.
Experience
5 plus years of hands-on experience in commercial or industrial HVAC installation
Prior experience as a Lead Technician, Foreman, or Supervisor strongly preferred
Experience with retrofit, replacement, and mechanical system installations
Technical Knowledge
Strong working knowledge of HVAC systems including RTUs, chillers, boilers, piping, and controls
Ability to read and interpret drawings, specifications, and installation documents
Familiarity with building automation systems (BAS) preferred
Leadership & Communication
Proven ability to lead field crews and subcontractors effectively
Strong communication skills with technicians, project managers, and customers
Ability to resolve field issues quickly and professionally
Field Leadership & Supervision
Supervise HVAC installation technicians, lead mechanics, and subcontractors on active job sites
Assign daily work tasks, set priorities, and ensure crews are properly staffed and productive
Provide hands-on technical guidance and support to field teams
Serve as the primary on-site point of contact for field execution issues
Project Execution Support
Execute work in accordance with approved project plans, drawings, schedules, and specifications
Coordinate closely with Project Managers regarding manpower needs, sequencing, and progress
Monitor job progress and report field status, risks, and constraints to project leadership
Assist with startup, commissioning, punch lists, and closeout activities
Safety & Quality
Enforce ABM safety policies, OSHA requirements, and site-specific safety plans
Conduct regular safety briefings and job hazard analyses (JHAs)
Perform quality inspections to ensure installations meet ABM standards, manufacturer requirements, and applicable codes
Address rework or deficiencies promptly to maintain schedule and quality
Materials, Equipment & Logistics
Coordinate delivery, staging, and use of materials and equipment at job sites
Ensure proper care and use of tools, vehicles, and company equipment
Assist with tracking materials and reporting shortages or delays
Customer & Team Interaction
Represent ABM professionally on job sites and interact with customers, inspectors, and other trades as needed
Resolve field-level issues with customers or site personnel and escalate when appropriate
Mentor and develop technicians and lead personnel through coaching and feedback
Administrative & Reporting (Limited)
Submit daily or weekly field reports, time tracking, and installation documentation as required
Support payroll accuracy by verifying hours worked
Participate in project meetings as needed to support execution
