Public Works Technician I-Surface Preservation
Overview
The Public Works Technician I - Surface Preservation is responsible for assisting with the repairs and maintenance of public streets, sidewalks, and other infrastructure
Responsibilities
Follows the Traffic control standards as per the Texas MUTCD Work Zone Traffic Control Guide
Directs traffic control at jobsites by flagging, cones, barrel and barricades
Uses message boards, water barrier, Type I, II, II Barricade during normal & emergency operations
Assists in setting up and removing traffic control devices at job sites
Loads and unloads materials, conducts flagging for traffic control and cleans job sites and devices
Performs labor activities not limited to but including shoveling, sweeping, raking, smoothing, and tamping of various materials in different stages of construction
Uses air compressor tools such as jackhammers and compactors and entry level machinery like rollers and compactors
Sprays oils from distributors and other equipment as needed
Operates city vehicle in support of moving crews and equipment to complete daily job tasks
Uses small hand tools and power equipment to complete job tasks
Performs cleaning and assists in general maintenance on equipment/ vehicles
Maintains around street maintenance yard: mow grass and use weed eater around obstacles, sweep curb and gutters, remove trash, and dispose of properly
Maintains safekeeping of materials and supplies in storage area
May be asked to perform other duties as assigned
Position Type and Typical Hours of Work
Non-Exempt-Full-Time
Rotating 40-hour work week-Monday-Friday, 7:00am- 4:00pm
Must be available to work additional hours as needed
Flexibility to work evenings, weekends, and holidays is a schedule requirement
In the event of an emergency, employees are required to work to provide for the safety and well-being of the public, including the delivery and restoration of vital services

Minimum Qualifications
High School Diploma/GED
No prior experience required
Licenses and Certifications
Required
A valid driver's license is required; successful out-of-state candidates must be able to obtain a valid Texas driver's license within 90 days of hiring
Required within six (6) months of hire
Traffic Control & Flagging certification
Confined Space certification
Trenching & Shoring certification

A recruitment consultant will evaluate all applications against the posted qualifications. The city may also conduct additional skill assessment tests, in addition to the panel interview
