Senior Diesel Mechanic ($33-$35/hr)
Join our team and help keep our community moving! Ozark Regional Transit is seeking a skilled and dedicated Senior Diesel Mechanic to join our experienced maintenance team. The Senior Diesel Mechanic performs advanced diagnostics, maintenance, and repair of diesel engines, electrical systems, and mechanical components on public transit vehicles and related equipment. This position ensures the fleet operates safely, efficiently, and in compliance with all state and federal regulations. The ideal candidate is an experienced technician with strong problem-solving abilities, extensive diesel knowledge, and professional certifications in ASE or Cummins systems. Schedule: Shifts may vary within shop hours: Monday-Friday 6:00 AM-10:00 PM, Saturday 9:00 AM-10:00 PM. Essential Duties and Responsibilities: Diagnose complex mechanical, electrical, and electronic issues in heavy-duty diesel engines and vehicle systems. Perform preventive maintenance and scheduled repairs according to established standards. Inspect, test, and adjust systems and components including brakes, transmissions, HVAC, emission systems, and fuel systems. Use diagnostic tools and software to evaluate performance data and identify necessary repairs. Maintain detailed records of repairs, parts, labor, and inspections. Mentor junior mechanics and assist with on-the-job training. Ensure compliance with safety and environmental regulations and organizational policies. Participate in ongoing education to stay current with new technology and repair practices. Minimum Qualifications: Minimum 7 years of verifiable experience in diesel repair and maintenance. ASE or Cummins certification required. Strong diagnostic and electrical troubleshooting skills. Ability to maintain, repair, and inspect transit buses and related equipment in a team-oriented environment. Must possess a valid Driver's License and be able to obtain and maintain a valid Class B CDL with Passenger endorsement, issued by the Arkansas Department of Motor Vehicles, or a Commercial Learner's Permit (CLP). ORT offers free in-house CDL training. Must meet all Federal Transit Administration (FTA) and Department of Transportation (DOT) standards, including criminal background requirements for safety-sensitive positions.
