Clearance: Ability to obtain and maintain public trust or higher, as required by SSA
Type: Full-time
*Overview*
FSS Government Solutions is seeking a Senior Python Developer to design, build, and operate cloud-hosted applications and integrations in support of Social Security Administration programs. You will work on production systems that handle sensitive beneficiary, enumeration, and program data, with a focus on reliable Python services on Azure or AWS, secure interfaces to SSA environments, and delivery under federal SDLC, security, and privacy rules.
*What you will do*
* Design and implement Python services, APIs, and batch/event-driven jobs for SSA mission applications.
* Build and maintain cloud-native components on *Azure or AWS* (compute, storage, messaging, identity, secrets, and observability).
* Integrate with SSA and partner systems using REST, SOAP, file transfer, and approved enterprise service patterns.
* Stand up and harden infrastructure with infrastructure as code and CI/CD; support promotion through Dev, Test, and Production under SSA change control.
* Implement security controls for PII and federal data: encryption, least-privilege IAM, audit logging, and alignment to NIST 800-53 / FedRAMP / SSA security requirements.
* Optimize architecture for reliability, cost, and (where applicable) AI-assisted workloads such as document intake, classification, or case-support tooling.
* Write tests, run code reviews, and raise engineering quality on a multi-contractor team.
* Produce design artifacts, interface control documents, and operational runbooks suitable for SSA review.
* Mentor developers and work directly with SSA stakeholders, analysts, and other vendors.
*Required qualifications*
* Senior software engineering experience delivering production systems in Python (3.x), including APIs, services, and data pipelines.
* Hands-on cloud experience configuring and operating *Azure and/or AWS* in production (not classroom-only): compute (Functions, App Services, EC2, Lambda, or containers), storage, networking, IAM, and logging.
* *Extensive Social Security Administration experience*, including delivery on SSA applications, infrastructure, or enterprise integration (mainframe-adjacent, MIDAS, ESECC, data exchanges, or comparable SSA programs).
* Experience working under federal SDLC, Agile, and SSA or similar agency change-management and release processes.
* Strong understanding of PII handling, privacy, and security expectations for SSA workloads.
* CI/CD (Azure DevOps, GitHub Actions, CodePipeline, or equivalent) and infrastructure as code (Terraform, Bicep, or CloudFormation).
* Relational databases and SQL; ability to work with existing SSA data stores and file-based exchanges.
* Ability to obtain and maintain the background investigation required for SSA work.
*Preferred qualifications*
* Both Azure and AWS in production; AWS Certified Solutions Architect and/or Azure Solutions Architect Expert.
* Containers and orchestration (Docker, AKS, EKS, ECS).
* Event-driven design (Service Bus, Event Grid, SQS/SNS, EventBridge).
* Mainframe / COBOL / CICS adjacency or experience integrating cloud services with legacy SSA systems.
* Section 508 accessibility in web applications.
* AI/ML on Azure OpenAI or Amazon Bedrock in a governed federal environment (RAG, document processing, secure tool access).
* FedRAMP, ATO package support, or continuous monitoring experience.
* Java, C#, or JavaScript in addition to Python.
* Prior work as a lead or technical lead on an SSA task order.
*Core skills*
Python, Azure or AWS, SSA program systems, REST/SOAP integration, IAM and secrets management, Terraform/Bicep, CI/CD, SQL, NIST/FedRAMP-aligned security, event-driven and batch processing, PII-safe design.
