If you are top performer interested in developing your career beyond Vermont and within an American corporation with locations around the US and the world, you will have opportunities for advancement here and elsewhere in the organization.Job Summary:The CNC Machinist assists in operating CNC equipment but not limited to (e.g., lathes, mills, grinders) manufacture ceramic components, supporting setup personnel and performing routine operations under guidance.Essential Functions:Proactively supports a culture of safety and quality as top organizational priorities.Actively participates in ongoing training initiatives and collaborates with team members and leadership to share information in a structured process.Loads and unloads CNC machines safelyRuns CNC jobs using pre-programmed codeAbility to make off-sets as instructedInspects finished parts using calipers, micrometers, comparators and other as neededReports machine malfunctions or product defectsLogs basic production data and completes SPC formsKeeps track of individual production by logging in/out of our MRP/Barcode system and counting completed partsReads and follows shop routing instructionsAssists with general machine shop duties as neededKnowledge And Experience:Level I0–1 year of CNC or machine operator experience; classroom CNC exposure a plusFamiliarity with measurement tools and blueprintsBasic computer skillsAttention to detail and ability to follow work instructionsWillingness to work under supervisionActively participates in ongoing training initiatives and collaborates with team members and leadership to share information in a structured process.Level IIIncludes Level I Plus:3–5 years CNC operator/manufacturing experience or equivalent technical trainingAbility to read and interpret technical drawings, tool paths, and CNC setup sheetsHigh-accuracy measuring skills with micrometers, calipers, gauges, and comparatorsFamiliarity with SPC, work instructions, and basic G/M-codeEdits CNC programs to optimize operations and interpret complex tool pathsCross-trained and proficient in performing tasks in various positions and across departmentsDemonstrates flexibility to work in various departments and roles as neededWorks independently and adapts to production needs while maintaining attention to detail and quality standardsLoads, unloads, and sets up production machines safelyOperates CNC machines to produce parts per work orders and drawingsPerforms quality checks and identifies non-conforming parts, halting production when necessaryMaintains production records, SPC logs, and tracks output in MRP/Barcode systemTroubleshoots minor machine issues and performs routine preventive maintenanceCommunicates production issues promptly to leads or supervisorsSupports continuous improvement initiatives in the cellPerforms all Level I CNC operator tasks and other machining-related duties across production areasLevel IIIIncludes Level I And II Plus:5–7 years CNC machining experience or equivalent technical backgroundProficient in G-code editing, blueprint interpretation, and multi-axis setupsStrong analytical, communication, and problem-solving skills for complex machining issuesExperienced with SPC, tools, gauges, and high-precision inspection equipmentAbility to create SPC charts and sign off sheetsWrite programs to optimize operations and interpret complex tool pathsMaintains accurate production logs, including SPC and scrap reportingTracks production in MRP/Barcode system and counts completed partsAbility to mentor junior operators and support cross-trainingWorks independently, prioritizing multiple jobs under pressureSets up and operates advanced CNC machines for complex partsInspects finished products and ensures quality conformanceIdentifies and resolves process inefficiencies or quality concerns proactivelySupports continuous improvement, team KPIs, and quality initiativesPerforms preventive maintenance and reports equipment issuesPerforms all Level I and II tasks and other advanced machining duties as assignedWorking Conditions:Work is generally performed on the shop floor, which can be noisy and dusty, as well as hot during the summer. Proper safety equipment is provided by STC where necessary.Physical Demands:Work involves prolonged periods of standing/sitting in one place performing redundant tasks. Deadlines, workloads during peak periods, and changing priorities may cause increased stress levels. May be required to bend and/or squat to properly inspect or run equipment.
