SummaryThe DLSSS will be responsible for locating limited- and non-English speaking, low-income families with children ages birth to age five, living in Davis County. The DLSSS will assist families in enrolling in Early Head Start and Head Start programs located throughout Davis School District. The DLSSS will empower families to achieve their significant life goals, such as obtaining a driver's license, pursuing educational opportunities, securing stable housing, and enhancing overall well-being. Works collaboratively with staff and families to provide tailored support, resources, and advocacy in Spanish and English that help families navigate challenges, set realistic objectives, and make informed decisions to achieve sustainable, positive outcomes.DescriptionThis classified position is open to all qualified applicants. Applications must be submitted by Friday May 1, 2026DUTIES:1- Serve as a liaison between dual language learning (DLL) families, the community, and Davis Head Start staff (18%);2- Establish a trusting and responsive relationship with Davis Head Start's DLL families through ongoing outreach and communication (8%);3-Communicate in Spanish and English with, provide resources to, and create and promote events for4- Head Start families and administrators through the Learning Genie software (8%);5- Be main point-of- contact and admin agency between Head Start and the Learning Genie software to promote Monthly Active Parent App Users and provide technical support to facilitate the use of the Learning Genie software (8%);6- Collaborate with the Head Start Director and senior managers to inform them of the specific needs of DLLs in the program and provide recommendations on how the program may best support DLL children and families in ensuring cultural responsiveness, inclusive practices, and knowledge of diversity (4%);7- Serve as an advisor to the Davis Head Start Management Team on issues of full inclusivity, cultural and linguistic responsivity, and the promotion of diversity in all program operations 5%);8- Identify Spanish-speaking community partners at various agencies supporting Head Start families so referrals for Head Start families will be seamless and effective (3%);9- Refer and/or assist DLL parents/guardians in locating relevant community resources, provide them with a wide variety of outreach services available in the community, and apply for appropriate public assistance programs if necessary (5%);10- Assist DLL families in obtaining transcription services and education/transcripts from other countries that will be recognized by the United States higher education system (4%);11- Work collaboratively with the Davis Adult Education Department in various locations of Davis County to assist DLL families who seek an opportunity to learn the English language (5%);12- Assist DHS Family Service Workers and Teaching Staff in obtaining translation/interpretation services for parent-teacher conferences, home visits, IEP/IFSP meetings, parent meetings, or wherever needed using the District Translation Department (10%);13- Provide written Head Start materials including newsletters, parent letters, etc. and assistance in Spanish to dual language families and children as needed (3%);14- Attend District diversity and multicultural meetings to stay current on District initiatives (1%);15- Train Davis Head Start staff on cultural issues, diversity, and inclusivity (3%);16- Represent Head Start on community boards, councils, committees, etc., and educate the community on the unique needs of low-income DLL families (2%);17- Participate in all Head Start department staff meetings to remain abreast of program operations and provide relevant input (3%);18- Organize and implement story-time activities for Head Start families in Spanish (1%);19- Create, actualize, and manage:A- monthly In-Kind reports and data in Learning Genie and ensure Head Start is meeting the In-Kind yearly goal; andB- ChildPlus to track first-generation family case histories and progress (8%); and20- Perform other related duties and responsibilities as assigned.[Note: Travel to/from classrooms and to meetings is required throughout Davis County. The program provides mileage reimbursement or company vehicle. Some travel for in- and out-of-state conferences may be required as deemed appropriate for the position, with in-state travel being approximately three times per year at approximately 2 days each trip, and out-of-state travel being approximately once a year for up to approximately 4 days.]REQUIREMENTS:Education: Bachelor's degree in Psychology, Social Work, or related field. License: Must possess a valid driver's license (or be eligible to obtain one within 30 days of hire).OTHER REQUIREMENTS:1- Demonstrable ability to communicate clearly and effectively in Spanish as demonstrated by successful completion of a Spanish language fluency evaluation from the American Council on the Teaching of Foreign Languages (ACTFL), or any other comparable organization that assesses foreign language fluency, at the Advanced-Mid level or higher (or comparable rating). [This Spanish foreign language assessment is waived if the candidate received a post-secondary degree in a country where Spanish is the first language];2- Demonstrable ability to communicate clearly and effectively in English as demonstrated by successful completion of an English language fluency evaluation from the ACTFL, or any other comparable organization that assesses foreign language fluency, at the Advanced-Mid level or higher (or comparable rating). [This English language assessment is waived if the candidate received a postsecondary degree in a country where English is the first language];3- Demonstrable ability to work effectively with:A- culturally and linguistically diverse groups of staff and families, including single parents, nontraditional families, families experiencing homelessness, foster care, and/or any marginalized populations; andB- adult learners with varying abilities;4- Demonstrable awareness and working knowledge of:A- the U.S. immigration system;B- the impact of poverty on children and adults;C- the unique needs of low socioeconomic status populations; andD- current community resources and agencies for populations served by the District's Head Start program;5- Demonstrable ability to recommend or refer appropriate intervention and assistance to families in crisis;6- Demonstrable ability to:A- use Word, Excel, and basic computer systems;B- organize and implement an idea to scale; andC- analyze program data and offer suggestions for program improvement and innovation; and7- Physical ability to perform the job duties listed above with or without reasonable accommodation.
