Fitness Specialist
Turnstone's Fitness and Aquatic program is currently seeking an enthusiastic, energetic, outgoing, and creative Full-time Fitness Specialist. As a Fitness Specialist you will provide direct fitness and aquatic services to clients; develop exercise programs utilizing various exercise modalities including the warm water pool and adaptive equipment, and provide assistance to youth and adults of all ages and all abilities in an individualized or group/class setting.Located in Turnstone’s official Olympic and Paralympic Training Site, Turnstone’s Fitness and Aquatic program provides the only exercise facility in northeast Indiana specifically designed to include people with physical disabilities. Because of Turnstone’s mission to empower people with disabilities, the Fitness and Aquatic program provides specialized attention to help people live more active, healthy lives and achieve milestones that are important to them. Turnstone’s Fitness and Aquatic program also provides guidance for adaptive sports athletes training to pursue competitive opportunities.Responsibilities:Develop, train and monitor fitness exercise programs for persons of all abilitiesInstruct group exercise classes such as SilverSneakers Classics, Yoga, and SplashProvide assistance/supervision as needed to ensure safety and the maximum benefit of facility equipmentPerform health evaluations and develop individualized exercise prescriptions based upon those results, as well as, consideration of input from the client or other health care professionalsEffectively communicate with clients, families, staff, volunteers, and community resourcesMonitor progress and upgrade and/or adapt programs as needed to assist clients in obtaining fitness goalsMust possess adequate strength and endurance necessary to assist clients with transfers, ambulation, and other functional mobility activitiesMust be able to lift a minimum of 50 pounds.Complete other duties as assigned.Position requirements:A minimum of a Bachelor’s Degree in the areas of health education, adaptive physical education, exercise science, exercise physiology or related field.Current and maintained certification in CPR and First AidFlexible schedule which includes weekends and eveningsPreferred:The preferred candidate will be ACSM certified, SilverSneakers Certified and/or 1-3 years of professional experience working with people with disabilities in adaptive fitness or group exercise classes.Clinical experience with people with disabilities (Preferred)Certifications through ACSM, NSCA, or ACE (Preferred)SilverSneakers Certified (Preferred)Schedule: Weekday and weekend availabilityEducation: Bachelor's (Required)Experience:Fitness Specialist: 1 year (Preferred)Group Fitness Instructor: 1 year (Preferred)
