As the need for our services grows, Catholic Charities is working to adapt and respond with strategies that prevent poverty, meet basic needs in times of crisis, and create pathways to greater stability.Wage Range: $22.50 - $26.30/hourlyShift: 11:30 pm - 10:00 am Wednesday through Saturday with one weekend off per monthJob SummaryCatholic Charities is seeking a detail-oriented, compassionate, and culturally responsive individual to serve as a Unit Supervisor at our Higher Ground Saint Paul location.The Unit Supervisor provides leadership, guidance, and direct support to Client Advocates in a low-barrier, housing-focused emergency shelter and drop-in center. Supervisors ensure safe and effective daily operations, model trauma-informed and housing-first practices, and foster a positive team culture centered on client engagement and housing outcomes. They serve as the point of contact for staff during their shifts, handle escalations, support crisis response, and maintain program standards through consistent supervision, training, and collaboration.Essential FunctionsLeadership, Engagement & Staff SupportProvide ongoing coaching, mentorship, and supervision to Client Advocates.Ensure staff deliver high-quality, client-centered support and uphold housing-first, harm reduction, and trauma-informed care principles.Conduct regular check-ins, monitor performance, and support staff growth through feedback and development opportunities.Lead pre-shift huddles, reinforce expectations, and model professionalism in all interactions.Shelter OperationsOversee day-to-day shelter and drop-in center operations to ensure a safe, welcoming, and organized environment.Manage staff coverage, delegate tasks appropriately, and ensure all operational responsibilities are met.Respond to staff questions, incidents, and concerns, ensuring issues are documented and resolved promptly.Support accurate and timely completion of documentation, data entry, incident reports, and service tracking.Ensure oversight of daily meal service at the drop-in center.Crisis Response & SafetyServe as the lead responder for escalated situations, providing guidance and support to staff.Use de-escalation and conflict resolution skills to address crises involving clients or staff.Administer Narcan and support harm-reduction interventions as required.Monitor the facility through safety rounds, ensure compliance with safety procedures, and act as a Mandated Reporter.Collaborate with security, facilities, and other departments to maintain a safe and secure environment.Collaboration & Program DevelopmentPartner with program leadership, case managers, and external providers to support client housing goals.Participate in leadership meetings, individual and staff training, and program development initiatives.Provide input on improving shelter practices, operations, and staff training needs.Act as a communication bridge between front-line staff and leadership to ensure alignment and consistency.Other duties as assignedMay drive shelter vans, administer breathalyzers, or assist with specialized program needs.Competencies, Qualifications & Technical ExpertiseHas the ability to work with diverse and/or low-income populations, including those who may be experiencing homelessness, unstable housing, and/or mental illness.High School Degree or equivalent.1-2 years of prior experience in a Shelter or Drop-In Center.Prior "Team Lead" experience a plus.Must be 21 years of age and successfully pass a criminal and a Department of Human Services background check, if required by program license.Strong leadership and interpersonal skills with the ability to coach and motivate staff.Skilled in conflict resolution, crisis response, and maintaining professionalism under pressure.Ability to remain calm, professional, and empathetic under pressure.Ability to balance enforcing rules and policies with compassion and empathy.Commitment to trauma-informed care, harm reduction, and housing-first principles.Flexibility to respond to changing needs in a fast-paced environment.Comfort working with individuals from diverse backgrounds and life experiences.Basic computer proficiency, familiarity with programs such as Microsoft Outlook and Internet Explorer.Flexibility to perform additional duties as assigned.Physical RequirementsCPR - YesDriving - NoOperating specialized machinery (additional assessment may be required) - NoWalking or standing > 2 hours/shift - YesLifting up to 25lbs without assistance - YesLifting up to 50lbs without assistance - NoPhysically restraining clients - NoCatholic Charities is an equal opportunity employer.Job Description Updated: 09/2025Please note this job description is not designed to cover or contain a comprehensive listing of all functions that are required of the employee for this job.
