Job Profile SummaryThe Physical Security Coordinator is responsible for protecting Broward College employees, students, facilities, and assets through the effective design, implementation, operation, and maintenance of physical security systems. This position provides centralized oversight of access control, video surveillance, intrusion detection, and related life safety technologies, ensuring systems operate reliably, are compliant with applicable regulations, and support campus safety objectives.The Physical Security Coordinator collaborates closely with Public Safety staff, College departments, contractors, and vendors, and serves as the primary point of contact for physical security system service requests. This position reports to the Support Services Captain.Minimum EducationBachelor's degree required.Minimum ExperienceFour years of relevant experience in a physical security–related field, including experience with data management software and physical security or video surveillance systemsExperience in physical security, law enforcement, or military service, preferably with hands‑on experience in security technology.Knowledge of IP‑based physical security systems, including alarm systems, access control, and security software platforms.Experience with the CCURE access control system preferred.An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.Licenses and CertificationsValid Florida driver’s license with an acceptable driving record.Ability to meet Broward College automobile use requirements.Essential FunctionsProvide centralized oversight of the College’s physical security infrastructure, including access control systems, ID card issuance, and related technologies, to safeguard students, faculty, staff, and College assets.Assign appropriate card access permissions and print faculty, and staff ID badges and access control cards.Attend construction and renovation project meetings and collaborate with College stakeholders to plan, implement, and administer life‑safety and physical security technology systems.Support and maintain security technologies, including but not limited to emergency campus phone towers, card readers (wired and wireless), door contacts, intrusion alarm devices, CCTV and video surveillance systems, license plate recognition systems, motion detection devices, and associated infrastructure (network, server, database, mechanical, and electrical systems).Troubleshoot physical security devices and systems to determine whether service can be resolved internally or requires coordination with external security integration vendors.Serve as the primary point of contact for Public Safety system service requests by responding to phone calls, emails, voicemails, and work orders.Issue, track, and manage work orders, coordinating with internal departments and external vendors to ensure timely and effective resolution.Ensure all security systems remain operational and in compliance with local, state, federal, and ADA requirements.Support system integrations, mapping, software upgrades, and provide training and guidance to Public Safety personnel on the use of security technologies.Assist with new and existing security projects, including risk assessments, vendor selection, technology upgrades, product evaluation, field verification, and inspections to ensure compliance with established standards and specifications.Develop project budgets, obtain quotes, define cost options and estimates, establish priorities, and coordinate project schedules to ensure work is completed on time and within budget.Maintain accurate inventories of parts, tools, and essential equipment to support timely repairs and installations.Oversee the issuance, modification, and decommissioning of access control cards and key fobs.Research, evaluate, and recommend security systems, materials, and equipment for purchase.Ensure adherence to College safety procedures by monitoring contractor work, addressing safety concerns, reporting unresolved hazards to supervisors, and stopping work when conditions are unsafe.Operate assigned College vehicles and maintain required usage and inspection records.Perform other related duties as assigned.Knowledge, Skills And AbilitiesFully proficient in professional and functional standards and protocols of positionGeneral understanding of College’s structure, policies and practices, and the impact on own areaAbility to contribute in multiple related areas within the functionExpertise in understanding and following project plans, including the coordination of multiple resources and activitiesUnderstanding of and ability to coordinate interdependencies of work within the area and of resources from outside the areaAbility to exchange information with individuals and collaborate and colleagues within the CollegeRequires advanced knowledge of computerized systems and operating environments i.e. Microsoft Office Products and specialized computer systems specAbility to interact and effectively communicate with employees and students.Our Culture – At Broward College, our leaders embody a culture of competence, care, character, composure, and courage.
