Guided by our values of safety, loyalty, integrity and respect, we are committed to delivering meaningful value for shareholders, customers, employees and the communities where we operate.Smurfit Westrock is a company where each of us genuinely belongs, is respected and valued, can do our best work, and where diversity, inclusion and equity are competitive advantages!The OpportunityAs a Project Engineer you will be responsible for coordinating the planning, organizing, and completion of capital projects at the Covington, VA mill.How You Will Impact Smurfit WestrockSupport and foster safety and environmental complianceUnderstand safe designs, safe work practices, and safe work environments.Evaluate the performance of mechanical systems to determine the best option for replacementDevelop capital CFR documents for capital approval processImplement capital projects on time and within budgetControl project costs by developing bid packages, monitoring expenditures, and administering contracts.Establish project schedules by studying specifications, calculating time requirements, and sequencing project elementsResponsible for construction oversight during implementation phases of on-site construction.Partner with operations, E&I, and Mechanical Maintenance to understand all processes and how teams and individuals are involved and impacted at each stepWhat You Will Need To SucceedBachelor’s degree in engineering, mechanical or chemical engineering preferredMust have 5 years of experience in a project, operations, or maintenance engineering roleExperience with SAP preferredStrong problem-solving and process-analysis skills to evaluate data and make decisions to drive process improvements through capital upgrades.Possess effective communication skills to clearly convey project-related data to operations, maintenance, and managementProven track record of collaboration within cross-functional teamsWork experience in the paper industry or similar industry preferredCandidates are required to undergo a drug screening after receiving a conditional job offer, but before starting employment.Qualified applicants will receive consideration for employment without regard to race, color, religion, sex, national origin, disability, protected veteran status or other characteristics protected by state or federal law.
