Position OverviewSystem One is seeking a highly motivated Senior Mechanical Designer to support the design and development of advanced Generation IV nuclear reactor systems. This role is responsible for creating structural and mechanical design solutions, developing 3D CAD models, and producing detailed engineering drawings to support conceptual and preliminary design efforts.The ideal candidate brings extensive experience in mechanical/structural design and drafting, with strong proficiency in SolidWorks and a deep understanding of engineering standards and design best practices.ResponsibilitiesDevelop robust 3D CAD models using advanced modeling techniques to support rapid design evolutionCreate, maintain, and review complex mechanical and structural designsPerform trade studies and propose innovative design solutionsSupport engineering analysis needs (structural, thermal, safety, etc.) through model configurationsGenerate and review engineering drawings including layouts, details, and general arrangements in accordance with ASME Y14.1 and Y14.5 standardsPerform tolerance stack-up analysesReview and check drawings for accuracy and compliance with drafting standardsMaintain configuration control of models and drawings using PDM/PLM systemsDocument design progress, changes, and decisionsSupport technical documentation including reports, presentations, and design reviewsCollaborate with internal teams and external suppliers to ensure design alignmentContribute to continuous improvement of design standards, processes, and documentationRequired Qualifications15+ years of experience in mechanical/structural design and draftingStrong proficiency in SolidWorksExperience with Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerancing (GD&T)Experience creating and reviewing fabrication drawingsStrong background in Design for Manufacturability (DFM) and Design for Assembly (DFA)Experience in mechanical and machine designExperience working with Product Data Management (PDM) systemsStrong analytical and problem-solving skillsAbility to manage multiple priorities with minimal supervisionExcellent communication and documentation skillsPreferred QualificationsExperience working with supplier engineering and manufacturing vendorsNuclear or highly regulated industry experienceAdditional RequirementsHigh level of integrity, professionalism, and teamworkDetail-oriented with strong organizational skillsAbility to work in a fast-paced, evolving engineering environmentWork Environment / Physical RequirementsProlonged sitting and/or standingFine motor skills for computer-based workAbility to lift up to 25 lbsStandard office/engineering environment (>8 hours/day)Occasional travel (0–5%)System One, and its subsidiaries including Joulé and Mountain Ltd., are leaders in delivering outsourced services and workforce solutions across North America.
