Position Overview
The Tax Software Specialist plays a key role in supporting the development and maintenance of state and local premium tax returns across multiple software applications. This position involves researching tax requirements, updating calculations, testing changes, and ensuring overall accuracy within our systems.
This is an entry-level role, and training will be provided. It is well-suited for individuals who enjoy problem-solving, working with structured logic, and applying technical skills in a practical, detail-oriented environment.
Duties and responsibilities
Develop state and local premium tax returns and supplemental forms using proprietary development tools, supporting applications built in both Java and Kotlin within IntelliJ-based environments
Research, analyze, and implement tax return changes as necessary
Review and update existing logic to ensure accurate tax calculations
Test changes prior to development and production releases
Provide product support via phone and email while maintaining professional client relationships
Maintain state specific documentation for tax laws, tax positions, and standards
Communicate with state taxing authorities regarding tax returns and legislative developments
Identify and recommend enhancements to software functionality and internal processes
Meet deadlines and commitments
Perform other duties as needed or required
Qualifications & Skills
Strong attention to detail, especially when working with calculations and rules-based systems
Ability to analyze problems and implement accurate, logical solutions
Comfortable working with mathematical concepts
Excellent verbal and written communication skills
Ability to work both independently and collaboratively
Adaptable and able to learn quickly in a changing environment
Strong work ethic, reliability, and accountability
Exposure to code, structured logic, or technical systems is helpful but not required
Familiarity with Java, Kotlin, or IntelliJ is a plus
Knowledge of tax principles or experience working with financial applications is a plus
Other
Some work outside normal business hours, including occasional weekends, may be required
All new hires are assigned a mentor to support training and onboarding, helping build the foundational knowledge and skills needed to succeed in the role
Pay: $50,000.00 - $60,000.00 per year
