Summary:
Provides technical expertise required for failure analysis/root cause corrective action of components, technical support of purchasing, manufacturing and quality, DFC services for BOM/corporate commodity group accuracy, strategic analysis, alternates and cost reduction and qualification of alternate components.
The Benchmark Corporate Supply Chain team is seeking a Senior Component Engineer IV with 15 plus years of experience in manufacturing and /or design. Must have direct experience in failure analysis/root cause corrective action of electronic components, alternates selection, cost reduction/qualification of alternate components, technical support of purchasing, Design for Cost services, and strategic analysis. Must also be familiar with electromechanical PCBA components including heat sinks, fans, connectors, thermal interface material, cabling, and faceplate / bracketry. Familiarity with electronic component suppliers and supply chain strategies is a plus.
Responsibilities:
Perform Failure Analysis of electrical issues and components to help identify root cause and corrective action with instrumentation and lab techniques with senior engineering guidance
Begin to work with and understand the laboratory failure analysis methods, techniques and lab equipment, commonly used by top tier semi-conductor manufacturers, in order to professionally evaluate vendor FA reports
Work with vendors in performing basic Failure Analysis with management guidance
Perform technical BOM/corporate commodity group scrubs/reviews/Design For Components (DFC) analysis for strategic analysis, cost/lead time reduction and content accuracy with direction
Provide basic technical support to Procurement, production/quality engineering, design engineering and customer engineering
Investigate alternate electrical components and vendors
Test electrical components using bench setups and instrumentation
Interface with both internal customers and supplier engineers in the pursuit of component FA and alternate parts
Technical support of incoming quality assurance/receiving inspection
Generate technical reports (FA, PoF, reliability and DFC) that are reviewed by senior level engineering and management for the customer
Develop and use software tools (spreadsheet, database, programming language) to compile and analyze component sourcing, manufacturer, part number, demand, cost, lead time and technical attributes
Generate engineering services bids (basic DFC, DFC+, DFC++)
Perform environmental/HAZMAT BOM scrubs (RoHS, WEEE, REACH, China RoHS, Pb free process data)
Perform Failure Analysis (FA) of electrical issues and components to identify root cause and corrective action with instrumentation and lab techniques with limited direction
Understand the majority of the laboratory failure analysis methods, techniques and lab equipment commonly used by top tier semi-conductor manufacturers in order to professionally evaluate vendor FA reports
Conduct Fault Tree Analysis, Ishakowa fishbone analysis or FMEA analysis as required
Work with vendors in performing Failure Analysis and driving corrective action with the vendors on intermediate level issues as required
Perform technical BOM/corporate commodity group scrubs/reviews/Design For Components (DFC) analysis for strategic analysis, cost/lead time reduction and content accuracy
Provide intermediate level technical support to Procurement, production/quality engineering, design engineering and customer engineering
Research alternate electrical components and vendors and work with the customer to qualify the alternate components
Test electrical components using bench setups, instrumentation and component ATE
Interface with customer with management guidance and supplier engineers in the pursuit of component FA and alternate parts
Develop component test fixtures
Perform engineering services bids (basic DFC, DFC+, DFC Max, DFC$, RoHS, Sn Whisker, DVT)
Analyze engineering requirements for complex piece parts, subassemblies, materials and processes, approve their application and coordinate the publication of the preferred parts list and component de-rating guidelines for assigned programs
May manage the Parts Control program for a major program, including Subcontractor Component Engineering activity, providing technical status and cost accountability
Prepare parts control standardization plans for assigned programs and identify unique program requirement
Coordinate Component Engineering submissions to program bid and proposal efforts and interpret contract data requirements such as System Specifications and Statement of Work for assigned programs
Review purchase requisitions, material releases, design review packages, electronic parts lists, consolidated parts lists and substitution lists for acceptance of complex components as standard components or acceptable non-standard components
Analyze engineering requirements and trade-off information to assist in part selection, control and standardization
Act as a liaison between the Component Engineering Department and the Program Office to establish risk items and long lead items, as well as establishing scheduling and priorities for data item activity
Analyze and evaluate complex failed piece parts and components to determine cause of failure, recommend corrective action and determine effectiveness
Attend meetings of Configuration Control Board, Design Review and Material Review Boards to advise program management in part standardization and disposition; Initiate corrective actions to be taken where warranted
Develop new techniques in preparation of nonstandard, non-catalogued engineering documentation
Provide the most efficient and cost-effective method of data presentation within Company and customer requirements
Research vendor literature and industry standards to establish required specification data to prepare specifications
May lead lower level Component Engineers and support personnel as required
Maintain knowledge across an area of generic component specialization and is cognizant of developments in other related fields
Demonstrate the highest level of competence in the discipline through knowledge and leadership in the function
Perform a wide variety of technical work, requiring extensive application of engineering principles and concepts to continually assess and resolve quality issues related to components being used in the manufacturing process
Perform professional technical assignments independently and/or coordinate the work of other engineers in the professional technical analysis, requiring the full use and wide application of established Component Engineering principles, theories, concepts and precedents in the field plus a working knowledge of other related disciplines
Review and coordinate the work of assistants to ensure progress is maintained towards achieving specified objectives
Interpret and direct the preparation of data for reports on technical findings, recommendations, accomplishments and progress measured against specified plans
Determine specific problems and established technical approach, select and pursue courses of action necessary to explore subject area and obtain required results; The conclusions are used in determining the acceptability of the component or product
Develop and implement new techniques and approaches to be employed in solving problems
Maintain knowledge in areas of IPC, reliability, quality and electronic assembly and test processes and all related fields
May represent the company at technical forums and customer meetings or publish in technical journals
Conduct research in areas which require a moderately high level of expertise and knowledge of areas of specialization and some related fields
Attend conferences and meetings to represent assigned activity

4 year Engineering or Technical degree preferred or equivalent combination of education and experience as approved by executive management
15+ years of electronics manufacturing experience; 5+ years in a leadership role
Considered an expert in engineering; Master of advanced technologies and applications, ASQ Certification
Ability to lead strategic initiatives
Complete understanding of a variety of problem solving techniques (i.e. DFM, DOE, SPC, etc.)
Outstanding industry-leading understanding of component engineering
Education: • 4 year Engineering or Technical degree preferred or equivalent combination of education and experience as approved by executive management
