Position Summary
We are seeking a skilled Mechanical Engineer with a minimum of 5 years of experience in a contract manufacturing environment, specializing in precision machining, sheet metal fabrication, welding, and electromechanical assemblies. The ideal candidate will have strong proficiency in SolidWorks, experience developing manufacturing-ready designs, and the ability to work closely with customers and production teams to deliver high-quality fabricated products.
This role serves as a key technical resource, collaborating with customers, manufacturing, quality, and production to ensure products are designed for manufacturability while meeting customer specifications, quality standards, and delivery schedules.
Essential Responsibilities
Design, develop, and modify mechanical components, assemblies, and products using SolidWorks.
Review customer drawings, specifications, and CAD models to evaluate manufacturability and identify opportunities for cost reduction and process improvements.
Create detailed manufacturing drawings in accordance with ASME Y14.5 GD&T standards.
Develop and maintain Bills of Materials (BOMs), engineering documentation, and Engineering Change Orders (ECOs).
Apply Design for Manufacturability (DFM) and Design for Assembly (DFA) principles to improve production efficiency.
Work closely with machining, sheet metal fabrication, welding, assembly, quality, purchasing, and production teams throughout the manufacturing process.
Support prototype builds, first article inspections (FAI), and new product introductions.
Troubleshoot manufacturing issues and implement practical engineering solutions.
Design tooling, fixtures, and workholding solutions to support manufacturing operations.
Participate in customer meetings and technical design reviews.
Evaluate materials, tolerances, finishes, and manufacturing methods to optimize quality and cost.
Assist with manufacturing quotations by evaluating engineering requirements, materials, and fabrication methods.
Support continuous improvement initiatives focused on quality, productivity, and cost reduction.
Required Qualifications
Minimum 5 years of mechanical engineering experience in a contract manufacturing, machine shop, precision machining, or sheet metal fabrication environment.
Proficiency with SolidWorks, including:
Parts
Assemblies
Sheet Metal
Weldments
Drawings
Strong understanding of GD&T (ASME Y14.5).
Experience producing manufacturing-ready engineering drawings.
Knowledge of tolerance stack-up and mechanical design principles.
Experience supporting products from prototype through production.
