Hearing And Vision TechnicianHearing and Vision Technicians 1 provide preschool and school-age hearing and vision screening in Michigan according to the Public Health Code; Act 368 of 1978; Part 93. Hearing and Vision Technicians are employed by local health departments (LHDs) and comprehensively trained by the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services (MDHHS) to provide screenings in the LHD service area. Under limited supervision, this position performs preliminary and re-test hearing and vision screening at various schools throughout Out-Wayne County to detect hearing or vision abnormalities in children; interprets and records test results and performs any necessary follow-up by letter, phone, or conference; travels to various schools throughout Out-Wayne County and utilizes current county-wide and department-specific software to complete assignments.ResponsibilitiesRequired TasksProvide preliminary hearing screening to children and adolescentsProvide vision screening to children and adolescentsDocument results of screening correctly and in a timely mannerEnter data into pre-approved forms and databases. Assist with generating monthly reportsCorrectly complete and submit necessary forms for each program, times sheets, and activity sheets in a timely mannerSchedule screening sessions in the communityMake follow-up telephone calls regarding screening sessions, results, and referralsDevelop effective working relationships with a wide variety of people to assure efficient screeningsQualificationsEducational RequirementsHigh School Diploma or equivalentExperience RequirementsOne (1) year of paid or volunteer experience working with children in a medical setting (Doctor's office, clinic or hospital) or nine (9) months of paid or volunteer experience working in an education setting (Daycare, after-school program, preschool, elementary/secondary school, school lunchroom and school library)A valid state of Michigan driver's license with safe and acceptable driving recordAn automobile available for transportation during work hours on a reimbursed mileage basisAttend the two-week hearing threshold and the one-week vision training courses provided by the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services (MDHHS) and obtain the hearing threshold and vision certification within two years of hire, if trainings are offered by MDHHS or as soon thereafterDemonstrate a professional attitudeDemonstrate an ability to work with children, parents, and school staff in a friendly and supportive mannerJob InfoJob Identification 1146Posting Date 01/27/2026, 07:11 PMJob Schedule Part timeJob Shift DayLocations 33030 Van Born Rd, Wayne, MI, 48184, US
