Lead Project Engineer

We are seeking a hands-on, technically driven Engineering Project Lead for our client, Zentis North America, the U.S. subsidiary of Zentis GmbH, a global leader in fruit processing and food manufacturing. This leadership role will oversee engineering activities and capital projects at their Plymouth, Indiana facility, with a focus on automation, process optimization, and operational excellence. The ideal candidate will bring a mix of technical expertise, team leadership, and project execution skills, along with the ability to work cross-functionally with production, maintenance, quality, IT, and global engineering teams. The Engineering Project Lead will own automation improvement initiatives, lead a team, and ensure successful execution of key capital projects. A strong background in food or related process industries, hands-on experience with installations, and a basic understanding of PLCs are critical.Responsibilities:Lead and mentor a growing team of process engineers to increase ownership and technical excellence on site.Execute engineering and capital projects from concept to completion, including installation, budgeting, and timelines. Collaborate with cross-functional teams and coordinate with Central Engineering in Germany.Drive process improvements by identifying bottlenecks and applying solutions that increase safety, efficiency, and product quality.Support and develop basic PLC integrations and controls in collaboration with automation specialists. Implement best practices in production operations, maintenance support, and operational troubleshooting.Promote a culture of accountability, safety, and continuous improvement.Contribute to the professionalization and growth of the U.S. engineering function.Skills & Competencies:Accountability (self & others)Hands-on project management and installation experience.Demonstrated success in leading engineering teams and owning end-to-end projects.Understanding of industrial automation, robotics, and control theory.Excellent problem-solving, communication, and project management skillsBackground & Education:Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Chemical, Electrical, or Industrial Engineering.5+ years of experience in manufacturing or process engineering (food, pharma, flavors, etc.)Familiarity with Siemens TIA Portal, Step 7, and WinCC.
