Embedded Software Engineer
Overview:
As an Embedded Software Engineer on Apex's Flight Software team, you will craft the software that runs on custom avionics hardware powering our satellite buses. You'll collaborate with avionics, GNC, propulsion, and hardware engineers to own software from design through flight. You'll architect new systems, prototype ideas, and implement mission-critical code that flies. This role offers the chance to influence spacecraft software across development, testing, and in-flight operations, within a fast-paced, manufacturing-oriented environment. Compensation / Benefitsequity in Apex 100% company-paid health (medical, dental, vision) for you and dependentslife insurance up to $100kgenerous PTO and holidays 401(k) with employer matchpaid parental leave and childcare reimbursement
Responsibilities:
- Develop low level software configuring and driving processor peripherals and communication interfaces on avionics
- Write and debug device drivers for sensors, actuators, and components across the bus
- Implement onboard algorithms including closed-loop control and fault detection/responses
- Write rapid prototype code for bench/testing and rigorous code for manufacturing and flight
- Provide embedded software input into new system and hardware designs
- Support commissioning of spacecraft during launch and early operations, ensuring software reliability during critical operations
Key requirements:
- 3+ years writing C/C++ for embedded systems, ideally on spacecraft, robotics, automotive, or other hardware interacting with the physical world
- Experience developing firmware for microcontrollers, bare-metal or RTOSExperience writing and debugging low level device drivers (SPI, I2C, UART, Ethernet, CAN)
- Comfort with hardware/software integration, reading schematics, using oscilloscopes and logic analyzers
