Principal Abdominal Donor Procurement Surgeon - Chicago, ILReports To: Chief of Abdominal ProgramsLocation: U.S. Various transplant centersEmployment Type: Full-timePosition OverviewThe Principal Abdominal Donor Procurement Surgeon will play a critical role in optimizing Organ Care System (OCS) utilization for FDA-approved liver indications. This role involves performing surgical liver retrievals while standardizing and maximizing the quality of surgical assessments and procurement procedures for OCS-managed organs, supporting transplant programs across the U.S.Key ResponsibilitiesPerform all aspects of abdominal donor procurement surgery, including clinical assessment of donor organs, surgical retrieval, and OCS instrumentation procedures, in line with company protocols and training standards.Maintain OCS surgical retrieval quality standards across all cases.Participate in developing and refining surgical retrieval, donor organ management, and communication protocols for OCS liver procurements.Assist in training and mentoring the OCS abdominal surgical retrieval team, including proctoring donor retrieval runs with junior surgeons as needed.Conduct the complete surgical assessment and OCS instrumentation procedure for donor livers, including back-table vascular anastomoses when required.Communicate with transplant programs accepting surgeons to provide surgical assessments that facilitate donor organ acceptance decisions.Coordinate with clinical staff regarding organ status to support the allocation process.Perform other tasks and duties as assigned.Management ResponsibilitiesThis position does not have direct management responsibilities.Physical & Compliance RequirementsCOVID-19 Vaccination: Full vaccination and boosters are required to work on-site at hospitals. Legal accommodations may be considered if they do not impose undue burden.Minimum QualificationsMD degree with at least 5+ years of experience in deceased abdominal donor organ procurement, assessments, and/or advanced abdominal surgical procedures.Minimum 2 years experience as the primary liver surgeon for liver retrieval, ASTS fellowship, or equivalent transplant experience.Proven interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to work independently and collaboratively.Ability to perform under pressure while maintaining professionalism.Proficiency with electronic messaging platforms and MS Office Suite.Logbook documenting surgical retrievals for DBD or DCD donors.Compensation & BenefitsBase Salary: $408,150 $550,000 annually (good-faith estimate; final offer depends on experience, qualifications, and location).Eligible for performance-based bonuses, equity, and comprehensive benefits:Medical with HRADental and VisionHealthcare and Dependent Care FSAsShort- and Long-Term Disability401(k) PlanPet InsuranceEmployee Stock Purchase PlanRelocation assistance available for ideal candidates.
