FinOps Cloud Ops Engineer
Terms of Employment:• Contract, 9 Months (Likely Extensions)• This position is hybrid. The selected candidate must work onsite in Reston, VA once per week, with occasional meetings in Washington, D.C. The remaining work can be performed remotely.Overview:Work with a leading enterprise organization to drive financial accountability and efficiency across its cloud ecosystem. As a FinOps Cloud Ops Engineer, you will play a crucial role in analyzing AWS cost structures, optimizing resource utilization, normalizing data across multiple vendors, and developing actionable cost reports for key business stakeholders.Key Responsibilities:• Analyze, manage, and optimize AWS cloud spend across infrastructure services including EC2, EBS, and RDS.• Utilize AWS native cost tools (Cost Explorer, Cost & Usage Reports, Cost Anomaly Detection, Budgets) alongside enterprise FinOps tools.• Perform data normalization across diverse vendor inputs, tools, and cloud products.• Build clear, actionable reports and show-back models using Power BI and Excel for business unit visibility.• Evaluate rightsizing opportunities, tagging compliance, and usage patterns to reduce overall cloud spend.Required Qualifications:• Minimum 2 years of dedicated experience in FinOps, Cloud Financial Management, and Cloud Cost Optimization.• Strong background as an AWS Cloud Operations Engineer with deep knowledge of AWS architecture and cost structures (EC2 shared vs. dedicated, EBS, tagging, show-back).• Demonstrated experience with AWS Cost Explorer, Cost and Usage Reports (CUR), AWS Budgets, and Cost Anomaly Detection.• Hands-on experience developing reports using Power BI and advanced Excel.• Availability and commitment to attend an in-person interview blitz in Reston, VA.Preferred Qualifications:• Hands-on experience with IBM Apptio or Apptio Cloudability.• Familiarity with FinOps Open Cost Usage Specification (FOCUS) guidelines.• Experience integrating and normalizing data across multiple cloud vendors and third-party tools.
