Passing score is 80%. if failed, RN is DNU for 6 months with AZ and Sacramento Region Day 1 pass/fail exam - details to follow SIMs Lab: All RNs will be expected to complete SIMs Lab for Foley catheter insertion & central line dressing changes, with the exception of NyICU & ED. NyICU only has to do Foley catheter insertion. ED does Foley catheter insertion but does port-a-cath insertion instead of central line dressing change. This is for travelers going to St. Joseph main campus &/or St. Joseph Westgate campus. NOTE - SIMs lab is pass/fail & nurses have been termed during SIMs Lab for breaking sterile field. Those travelers that understand sterile field typically pass SIMs Lab skills (See separate notes for the specific checklist IF traveler asks for additional details). The hospital expects that every nurse is competent in these areas, especially maintaining sterile field, as these are nursing skills that are performed frequently. NOTE: if a candidate indicates that they are not competent in either of these areas, they are probably not a good fit. In addition to SIMs Lab, they will also go through lifts, restraints, & wound care, but these are just educational based since the equipment & policies can be different facility to facility. - Unit: Observation (7 HLT) - # beds: 21 beds up to 23 - Certs: BLS, ACLS. Strong MedSurg and Observation experience; strong time management - Ratios: 1:4 - 1:5 - EMR: Cerner - Charge Nurse: Yes, with 1 patient - Nurse Aides: 1 PCT per shift. - Weekend Requirement: 3 weekend shifts in 4 week period. - Holidays: Work into rotation. - Scrub Color: Navy - Tele: Centrally monitored, RNs read strips. - Vents: Cpap at night. Some occasions arise where BiPap and High Flow are used on the unit but managed by RT. - IV Team: SWAT RN available for difficult IV sticks. Are RNs required to titrate drips? Yes Common titratable &/or set rate drips: Diltiazem, Heparin, and Amiodarone Charge Nurse/House Supervisor? Does the charge nurse take an assignment? Charge Nurse: When short staffed. Can range 1-3 patients - RT 24/7: Yes - Pharmacy 24/7: Yes - Shifts: 12Hr shifts, 7-7 Schedule is released 4 weeks in advanced, subject to change based on units needs. Is there Call or a Standby requirement? Staff can be placed on Standby. The RN must be notified at least 1.5 hours before their shift starts. The RN must report to the unit within 1 hour of being called in. - Floating: MedSurg Tele floors; Can float to: Westgate Campus (22 miles/minutes) & AZ General Laveen (21 mile/ 30 minutes); 1-2 hour notice before shift if they were needed to float to the other campuses, Floating could be mid-shift - Floor specific orientation: 2 days floor. - Common diagnosis / Types of patients: CP patients, syncope, api, chole, hand surgeries; fundoplications, OBGYN post ops, s/p trauma observation patients - Additional Notes: Very high turnover.
