Feed the Mass, a 501c3 nonprofit organization, was founded on the belief that everyone deserves access to reliable, high-quality nutrition. We proudly deliver multiple sustainable solutions to combat food insecurity in the Portland metro area by empowering, educating, and serving through food. We are looking for someone talented to join our Team as a Kitchen Lead. A Kitchen Lead at Feed the Mass is responsible for collaborating with the Kitchen Manager to plan and execute the day’s menu. The day-to-day responsibilities include but are not limited to meal preparation and packing, cleaning up, and tearing down. This position involves frequently engaging with volunteers to reinforce our standards and retain mindfulness of our mission. This will involve teaching them new skills and applying them to achieve our common goal- feeding the community. We do over a thousand meals a week, and we need people who have the talent to ensure that food goes out on time and is of high quality. Responsibilities You will work closely with the Team and prepare menus in collaboration with colleagues. Creation of preparation list for meals of the day and future meals. Enforce strict health and safety standards during the cooking process. Comply with nutrition and sanitation regulations set by the organization. Ensure meals come out simultaneously, in high quality, and in a timely manner against our schedule. Skillfully complete other duties as assigned by the Program Manager. (Sample: Inventory Management, Food Storage/Planning) You will need to pivot appropriately should post how situations occur. Help foster and maintain an environment of smooth and friendly cooperation with positive and professional behavior. Requirements This requires being a frequent and fluent communicator as well as proven, long-term experience in a high-volume restaurant or another cooking environment. Excellent use of various cooking methods, ingredients, equipment, and process. Have the ability to multitask and work efficiently under pressure.
