Free use of our on-site fitness center, gym sports, group exercise classes, and game room Onsite catering and cafeteria subsidized by OCLC Health and wellness events Work environments with individual and team spaces and the latest technology tools Paid parental leave and adoption assistance Tuition reimbursement and Public Service Loan Forgiveness eligibility Company-subsidized pricing on local tickets and memberships Join us in transforming how people everywhere access information and be part of a mission-driven team that makes a global impact.The Job Details Are As FollowsData Engineers are responsible for bringing robust, efficient, and integrated data models and products to life and sit at the intersection of business teams, Data Analysts, and Software Engineers.ResponsibilitiesHelp promote data innovation across OCLC with a willingness to experiment and to confront hard and complex problemsExpertise in designing and developing distributed data pipelines using modern data technologies, demonstrated with years of proven experienceShip large features and foundational improvements with minimal guidance and support from other team membersSupport other data team members with the shipping of new features by setting direction and providing guidanceSolve technical problems of the highest scope and complexityExert significant influence on long-range goals of the teamRecognized leader of the Enterprise Metadata Platform, a scalable resource to support Self-Service and Single-source-of-truth analyticsImplement the DataOps philosophy in everything you doDefine and extend our internal standards for style, maintenance, and best practices for a large-scale data platformInteract with internal customers and stakeholders as a consultant and spokesperson for the work of your teamProvide mentorship for all on your team to help them grow in their technical responsibilitiesOrganize and Plan multi-quarter initiatives and develop the Enterprise Model RoadmapPropose ideas to improve the scale, performance, and capabilities of the Data PlatformRegularly participate in the Data Community/Industry outside of OCLC through writing, speaking, and/or networkingQualificationsMinimum of a bachelor's degree in a Computer Science-related discipline required and 6+ years of software development and data design experience4+ years working with a large-scale (1B+ Rows) Data Warehouse, preferably in a cloud environmentProfessional experience using Python, Java, or Scala for data processing (Python preferred)Demonstrated experience leading 2 or more multi-department analytics projects from inception to operationalizationDemonstrated proficiency with data system design, including databases, schema, marts, aggregates, and viewsExperience introducing a new tool or technique to a multi-person team, leading to measurable productivity improvementExperience with data access and security techniques, both inside and outside of a data warehouseExperience creating data pipelines in support of near real-time event stream processingMastery of Database design principles and the Kimball methodologyRequires deep technical and functional knowledge that contributes to the overall direction and impacts multiple teams, including working directly with external stakeholders.Demonstrated capacity to clearly and concisely communicate complex business activities, technical requirements, and recommendationsPresented multi-quarter development roadmaps to non-technical audiencesSpecializationsLead Data Engineer, Data Architect:Sets data architecture principles, standards and guidelinesContinuously reviews current data modelling principles and initiate any improvements to enable the implementation of the intended architectureCreates an inventory of the data and tools needed to implement a scalable data architectureLead Data Engineer, Technical Lead:Sets the technical direction for data and cross-functional projectsCoordinates the technical effort during design and development and resolves technical disagreementsManages the technical quality of team deliverablesWorking Conditions: Normal office environment.ADA/EAA: The above statements cover what are generally believed to be the principal and essential functions of this job.
