As an accredited member of the Association of Zoos & Aquariums (AZA) for 35 years, the Zoo provides a home for more than 2,000 animals representing over 400 species.Grounds Maintenance TechnicianJOB SUMMARYThe Grounds Maintenance Technician is responsible for the maintenance and care of the grounds and landscaping. This position regularly operates electric and gas-powered equipment and machines as well as small hand and power tools for planting, cultivating, and trimming.SPECIFIC DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIESSeed, water, mulch, and fertilize plants, flowers, lawns, and turf.Inspect plant materials for insects, disease, and physical damage.Transplant, prune, trim, and cultivate trees, shrubs, ground cover, and flowers.Mow lawns with a push or riding mower.Trim and edge around hardscape and planters.Weed, thin, and clean flower beds and other grounds.Safely operate pick-up trucks, tractors, riding mowers, and power tools while wearing appropriate PPE.Perform minor building maintenance work such as painting, patching, woodwork, and fence as needed.Assist with delivering supplies, materials, or other equipment as needed.Perform work through written and verbal instruction.Assist other trades and departments as needed.Coordinates assigned grounds maintenance duties with external contractors.Other duties as assigned.QUALIFICATIONSMust have a high school diploma or GED.Must have two or more years of experience and/or knowledge of facility and grounds maintenance.Knowledge of irrigation systems is a plus but not required.Must have a valid driver's license and reliable transportation.Must have good verbal and written communication skills to work effectively with others.Must have good observational skills.Self-motivated and able to work autonomously.Must be able to walk, stand, sit, kneel, stoop, crawl, twist, reach above head, pull, bend, climb stairs and ladders, and lift/carry 70lbs.Must be able to work weekends, holidays, nights, or evenings as needed.Successful candidates must complete a pre-employment drug screening, background check, and TB test.How to ApplyPlease Click Here to ApplyDallas Zoo650 S.
