Closing Date: Open Until Filled - First round of candidate reviews on March 20$19.00 per hourJOB TITLE: Watercraft Inspector Level 2 Decontamination - SeasonalDEPARTMENT: Environmental Services/ZoningSUPERVISOR: Water Resource ManagerSALARY: $19.00 per hourPOSITION STATUS:Part Time Seasonal Temporary - 20 hours per week minimum, up to 40 hours per week, maximum 80 hours per pay periodJOB OBJECTIVE:Must be 18+ to be considered for an interview.Inspect watercraft for Aquatic Invasive Species (AIS). Assist watercraft users with decontamination of their watercraft. Inform and educate the public on the threats of ecologically harmful AIS to the lakes and rivers in Chisago County. Provide citizens with training and education on how to prevent AIS transport.SUPERVISION RECEIVED:Supervision provided by the Water Resource Manager, assisted by the AIS Specialist/Lead Watercraft Inspector.ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:Educate the public on AIS spread and impactsOperate and maintain decontamination equipmentDistribute informational handouts to watercraft usersManually inspect watercraft for AISIdentify contaminated watercraft and implement AIS decontamination protocolsConduct a verbal survey and document data in a tabletAdhere to Watercraft Inspector Scheduling GuidelinesWork in partnership with the Chisago County Sheriff's Department and the Department of Natural Resources Statewide AIS ProgramOperate and maintain/winterize AIS equipment including truck, decontamination unit, and boatParticipate in AIS outreach/education eventsConduct early detection and baseline monitoring at public water accessesOther duties as assignedPROGRAM STRUCTURE:The Watercraft Inspector Level 2 Decontamination is expected to work weekends (including Saturdays and Sundays), evenings and some holidays between Minnesota Fishing Opener and the third week of October. Inspector will be responsible for work schedule upon supervisor approval. Personal transportation is required. Scheduling can be flexible to work around adverse weather conditions.DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS:Education and ExperienceGraduation from high school or equivalentCurrently pursuing, or completed, a college degree program in a natural resources, education, law enforcement, or other related fieldOne year experience as a watercraft inspectorValid Driver's License and personal vehicleKnowledge, Skills, and AbilitiesExcellent verbal communication skillsSound understanding of customer relationsAbility to coordinate multiple tasks within a professional settingAbility to work independently with minimal supervisionComputer/word processing skillsDemonstrated interest in environmental work through education, volunteer work, or hobbiesTOOLS AND EQUIPMENT USED:Truck, decontamination unit & accessory equipment, trailer, car, computer, telephone, tablet.PHYSICAL DEMANDS:The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. The employee is occasionally required to climb or balance; stoop; kneel or crouch.The employee must occasionally lift or move up to 100 pounds. The employee will regularly encounter spray water drift. The employee can expect to work in a variety of weather conditions.
