Senior Project Engineer – MechanicalLocations: Buffalo, NY | Rochester, NY | Syracuse, NY | Albany, NY | Boston, MA | Orlando, FL | Tampa, FL | Brick, NJ | Allendale, NJCompensation: $93,000 – $124,000 annually, depending on experienceWe are seeking a Senior Project Engineer – Mechanical to lead the design, implementation, and optimization of HVAC and mechanical building systems across commercial, institutional, healthcare, industrial, and mission-critical facilities.This position is responsible for delivering high-performance mechanical solutions from concept development through construction support, commissioning, and project closeout. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in HVAC systems, energy-efficient building infrastructure, building automation integration, and multidisciplinary project coordination.Key ResponsibilitiesLead mechanical engineering efforts for HVAC, hydronic, chilled water, hot water, and air distribution systems.Perform heating and cooling load calculations, equipment sizing, and system selection.Develop Basis of Design documents, engineering narratives, specifications, and construction documents.Support mechanical system commissioning, startup, troubleshooting, and performance verification.Coordinate designs with electrical, controls, structural, architectural, and construction teams.Assist with facility modernization, energy optimization, and infrastructure upgrade initiatives.Review submittals, RFIs, change orders, and contractor deliverables throughout project execution.Collaborate with owners, contractors, vendors, and internal project teams to ensure successful project delivery.Mentor junior engineers and technical staff while providing leadership on complex projects.Support project budgeting, scheduling, and technical decision-making throughout the project lifecycle.QualificationsAssociate's degree required; Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering preferred.10+ years of experience with HVAC, mechanical systems, facilities infrastructure, building solutions, or MEP engineering projects.Experience with commercial, healthcare, industrial, educational, municipal, or mission-critical facilities.Strong knowledge of:HVAC systemsChillers and cooling towersBoilers and hydronic systemsAir handling units (AHUs)VAV systemsBuilding Automation Systems (BAS/BMS)Energy-efficient building designMechanical commissioningExperience performing load calculations, equipment selection, and system analysis.Knowledge of ASHRAE standards, mechanical codes, and industry best practices.Proficiency with Revit, AutoCAD, Bluebeam, or similar engineering software preferred.Professional Engineer (PE) license preferred but not required.Preferred BackgroundsCandidates may come from backgrounds such as:Senior Mechanical EngineerHVAC Project EngineerMEP EngineerFacilities EngineerBuilding Systems EngineerMechanical Project ManagerCommissioning EngineerEnergy EngineerBuilding Automation EngineerMechanical Design Engineer
