Software Engineer (JAVA) - Remote at Washington, DCContract Duration: 3+ monthsSeeking a skilled Software Engineer with proficiency in Java.Technical SkillsStrong Java development experience, including object-oriented programming, backend services, and integration workflows.Hands-on experience with API development and integration, including RESTful services, authentication patterns, and data transformation.Proficiency with Apache Kafka, including producing/consuming messages, schema management, and troubleshooting distributed data pipelines.Experience developing and scheduling cron jobs or other automated/background tasks within enterprise environments.Strong SQL skills with the ability to write complex queries, tune performance, and troubleshoot issues.Experience working with Oracle databases, including stored procedures, schema design, and performance optimization.Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines—preferably using tools such as Jenkins or GitHub Actions.Understanding of enterprise integration patterns, especially in environments with multiple upstream/downstream systems.Domain KnowledgeFamiliarity with Fleet Management / Vehicle Maintenance Systems or other asset management domains.Understanding of Inventory Management concepts, parts workflows, and related system integrations.Delivery & Process SkillsExperience working in Agile/Scrum environments, participating in sprint ceremonies, backlog refinement, and story estimation.Ability to use work management tools (VersionOne preferred).Understanding of IT Service Management (ITSM) processes, including incident, problem, and change management (ServiceNow preferred).Soft SkillsStrong problem-solving and troubleshooting skills, especially in complex enterprise architectures.Ability to work closely with functional analysts, QA testers, product owners, and business stakeholders.Comfortable acting as a technical SME in discussions with both technical and non-technical audiences.Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to clearly document solutions, defects, and integration flows.Highly collaborative, with the ability to navigate multiple teams, vendors, and integration partners.
