This structured transition-to-practice program bridges the gap between academic preparation and independent clinical practice through evidence-based curriculum, specialized clinical experiences, and dedicated mentorship.Our fellowship program offers six distinct specialty tracks designed to develop clinical expertise, foster professional growth, and prepare nurse residents for successful careers in their chosen specialty area. Residents will benefit from a supportive learning environment, structured orientation, ongoing education, and guidance from experienced preceptors, nursing education, and leadership. Each track will have defined milestones and competencies that are completed by skill verification. The total time of the nurse residency will vary dependent upon chosen specialty with a goal of 12-18 months’ time of competition.Nurse residents will apply for one of the following specialty tracks based on their career interests and goals:Emergency Department (ED): Develop expertise in rapid assessment, triage, emergency interventions, trauma care, and critical decision-making in a fast-paced environment.Intensive Care Unit (ICU): Master advanced critical care skills including hemodynamic monitoring, ventilator management, complex medication administration, and care of critically ill patients.Behavioral Health: Specialize in psychiatric nursing, crisis intervention, therapeutic communication, medication management for mental health conditions, and holistic patient care.Inpatient Medical-Surgical: Build a strong foundation in general nursing care including assessment, medication administration, care coordination, patient education, and management of diverse medical conditions.Labor and Delivery: Develop expertise in maternal-child nursing, labor support, fetal monitoring, delivery assistance, postpartum care, and newborn assessment.Perioperative Surgical Services - PACU Focus: Specialize in post-anesthesia care including airway management, pain control, monitoring complications, and safe patient recovery from anesthesia.Perioperative Surgical Services - OR Focus: Master operating room nursing including sterile technique, surgical instrumentation, circulating and scrub roles, and intraoperative patient care.ResponsibilitiesClinical Practice:Provide safe, competent, and compassionate patient care under the guidance of experienced preceptorsConduct comprehensive patient assessments and develop individualized care plansAdminister medications and treatments in accordance with established protocols and standardsDocument patient care accurately and thoroughly in the electronic health recordDemonstrate progressive independence in clinical decision-making throughout residency and continued fellowshipParticipate in interdisciplinary rounds and collaborate with the healthcare teamProfessional DevelopmentActively participate in all residency program educational sessions, workshops, and workshopsComplete specialty-specific competency requirements and skills validationsEngage in reflective practice and evidence-based learning activitiesDevelop critical thinking and clinical reasoning skills through case studies and simulationsPursue relevant certifications and continuing education opportunitiesCommunication And CollaborationCommunicate effectively with patients, families, and members of the healthcare teamProvide patient and family education regarding diagnoses, treatments, and discharge planningDemonstrate professional behavior and maintain positive working relationshipsParticipate in unit-based committees and shared governance activitiesAdvocate for patient safety and quality improvement initiativesComplexity Of Work Within scope of job, requires critical thinking skills, decisive judgment and the ability to work with minimalsupervision. Must be able to work in a stressful environment.Personal Protective Equipment Follows Standard Precautions using personal protective equipment as required.Education High School Diploma/GED required Diploma from an accredited school/college of nursing required.Required Credential(s)Licensure / Certification / Registration: BLS Provider obtained within 3 Months (90 days) of hire date or job transfer date. Registered Nurse credentialed from the New York Board of Nursing.
