Tax Manager - Private Clients
The Tax Manager is responsible for managing a portfolio of client relationships, overseeing tax compliance and advisory services, leading a small team of tax professionals, and supporting the firm’s growth through client onboarding and business development activities. This role combines technical tax expertise, team leadership, client management, and sales support to ensure exceptional service delivery and long-term client retention.Key Responsibilities:Manage a book of business consisting of business, individual, and/or real estate investor clients.Serve as the primary point of contact for assigned client relationships.Deliver proactive tax planning, advisory, and compliance guidance.Oversee preparation and review of tax returns for individuals, partnerships, corporations, and other entities.Identify tax-saving opportunities and planning strategies for clients throughout the year.Maintain high client satisfaction through responsiveness, communication, and relationship management.Coordinate and manage client deadlines, deliverables, and workflow expectations.Team Leadership & Operations:Supervise, mentor, and develop a small team of tax staff.Review work for technical accuracy, completeness, and quality control.Delegate work effectively and monitor team productivity and utilization.Support employee training, coaching, and performance development.Assist with workflow management and capacity planning during peak and non-peak seasons.Promote collaboration, accountability, and continuous improvement within the team.Ensure compliance with firm standards, processes, and professional requirements.Business Development & Client Onboarding:Participate in consultations and discovery meetings with prospective clients.Assist in identifying client needs, service opportunities, and engagement scope.Support the sales process by presenting solutions, explaining service offerings, and helping close new business opportunities.Lead onboarding efforts for new clients, including information gathering, system setup, expectations management, and relationship transition.Build and maintain referral relationships with clients, centers of influence, and strategic partners.Identify cross-selling opportunities across tax and advisory services.Technical & Firm Responsibilities:Stay current on tax law changes, industry developments, and regulatory updates.Support implementation of process improvements, technology, and workflow efficiencies.Contribute to the firm’s growth initiatives, culture, and operational goals.Assist leadership with special projects, strategic initiatives, and client issue resolution as needed.Requirements & Qualifications:Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Tax, or related field.Active CPA, EA, or JD credential required.5+ years of experience in public accounting or tax advisory services.Experience reviewing individual, partnership, and corporate tax returns.Prior experience supervising or mentoring team members.Strong client relationship management and communication skills.Ability to manage multiple projects, deadlines, and priorities in a fast-paced environment.Strong organizational, analytical, and problem-solving abilities.Experience working with small business owners, real estate investors, and high-net-worth clients preferred.Business development or client onboarding experience is a plus.
