General RequirementsPractice safety rules. Follow verbal and written instructions. Safe use of hand & power tools. Report to and assist immediate supervisor. Perform quality work as determined by project specifications. Accountable for all tools and materials at the end of your shift. Must work well as part of a team. Functional RequirementsSelect torch, torch tip, filler rod and flux, or electrode according to welding chart specifications or type and thickness of metalConnect regulator valves and hoses to oxygen and fuel gas cylinders and to welding torchTurn regulator valves to activate flow of gases, lights torch and adjusts gas mixture and pressure to obtain desired flame, based on knowledge of gas-welding techniquesHold torch at proper angle to metal and guide along weld joint, applying filler rod to molten area to form weldExamine weld for bead size and other specificationsMay preheat work piece with torchMay layout, position and tack weld work piecesMay weld along vertical or overhead weld linesMay scarf or groove weld prior to applying filled metal, using gas-welding equipmentMay chip or grind off excess weld, slag, or spatterMay clean or degrease parts, using a wire brush or portable grinderMay cut metal plates or structural shapes using gas torchMay be required to pass start tests to meet certification standard of government agencies or professional associationsPlan layout, assembly and welding. Lay out, position, align and fit components together. Bolt, clamp and tack weld parts to secure in position for welding. Set up equipment and weld parts. Assemble parts by bolting and riveting. Weld pipe, sheet metal, structural steel, brackets or other materials. Repair products by dismantling, straightening, reshaping and reassembling parts. Use cutting torch to cut materials and demo existing assemblies. Qualification StandardsOne (1) to four (4) years of experience in Welding. Written pre-employment qualification test. Post-offer drug/alcohol screen and physical evaluation. Job site safety requirements as required by the client (clean shaven, long sleeves, steel toe boots, etc.). Safety equipment as required by the client (hard hat, safety glasses, gloves, respirator, hearing protection, safety harness with lanyard, etc.). Physical RequirementsMust comply with company’s drug and alcohol abuse policy. Must be able to pass physical examination, pre-employment if necessary, and as required by the company. Able to climb and maintain balance on ladders, scaffolding, stairways, etc. Stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, or work at elevated heights as well as in confined spaces (towers, vessels, excavations, etc.). Able to carry 50 lbs. of tool and/or materials. It is recommended to get assistance to lift items over 50 lbs. Check with your project supervisor or project safety director. Must be able to stand or walk for long periods of time. Must be able to work extended hours on your feet on uneven surfaces (dirt, concrete, asphalt, mud, gravel, etc.)Must be clean shaven and able to work while wearing a respirator and other personal protective equipment, when required.
