Job DescriptionPosition: Beverage ServerDepartment: Food and BeverageJob Summary: Provides beverage service to guests in an efficient, courteous, and professional manner as well as in compliance with the Gaming Enterprise Division's (GED) and departmental standards, procedures, and policies as well as applicable laws and regulations.Duties and Responsibilities (specific areas of responsibility include but are not limited to):Offers warm and sincere welcome/farewell to all guests using a guest's name, when possible, and making good eye contact.Works in assigned area carrying full trays of non-alcoholic drinks on rounds of the gaming floor.Takes orders for alcoholic drinks and communicates the orders to the bartenders.Assists in the preparation of drink orders, as required, by performing tasks such as icing glasses and garnishing drinks; presents drinks to guests.Answers guest questions about the ingredients in cocktails; makes recommendations regarding cocktails or specific brands of spirits.Monitors guest consumption of alcohol and intervenes, as needed, according to established guidelines.Provides fast, friendly, and professional beverage service to guests.Creates a comfortable, pleasant atmosphere for guests by being friendly and engaging in conversation as time permits.Learns and uses guest names when serving as often as possible.Accepts payments and gives change when necessary. Collects tips and reports information according to established procedures.Keeps track of guest movement on the gaming floor to ensure prompt, speedy service.Responds to guest needs by providing continuous service until their departure.Resolves guest and team member complaints in a pleasant and professional manner.Provides food service when required; learns about the various menu items and understands the shorthand used to submit orders to kitchen staff.Checks and prepares the floor on arrival and throughout shift by performing tasks such as emptying ashtrays or picking up empty glasses and returning them to the proper area.Learns what liquors are in stock at start of shift.Maintains a clean and stocked workstation throughout the shift practicing clean-as-you-go procedures; performs side work such as stocking coffee, glasses, or napkins throughout shift.Follows established safety and security policies and procedures including reporting accidents, injuries, and unsafe working conditions immediately to a supervisor.Ensures uniform and personal appearance is clean and professional.Fosters a team environment by working collaboratively with co-workers.Displays initiative and ability to work with a minimum amount of supervision.Serves as ambassador of goodwill while working and at guest and public relations functions.Promotes GED events and programsComplies with established GED and departmental policies, procedures, and standards as well as applicable laws and regulations.Performs other job-related duties as assigned.Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:Knowledge of glassware, pricing, and garnishes.Knowledge or ability to learn tray service and cocktail ingredients.Working knowledge of cash register, calculator, Micros point-of-sale system, and currency transactions.Good organizational, planning, and time management skills.Good communication and guest service skills.Skill in working courteously with guests as well as developing and maintaining good working relationships.Skill in counting money and making correct change.Skill in exercising sound, mature judgment.Ability to learn the ingredients of popular drinks and specific brands of spirits as well as wines and beers.Ability to accurately handle and count money as well as make change.Ability to resolve service problems, especially those related to alcohol awareness requirements.Ability to communicate and follow directions effectively.Ability to perform basic mathematical computations pertaining to the position.Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.Ability to read, write legibly, understand, and speak English.Ability to lift and carry twenty (20) pounds for extended periods of time, and grip necessary items such as glasses, garnishes, and money.Ability to work in a fast paced and sometimes stressful environment.Ability to maintain confidentiality.Ability to adapt well to an environment that involves large numbers of guests as well as loud and continuous high noise levels.Ability to work in a smoking environment.Minimum Qualifications:Must be at least 18 years of age.Must either have six (6) months money-handling experience or pass a job-related test.Must either possess or obtain a valid Food Handler's card or ServSafe certification AND an Alcohol Awareness card within three (3) months of employment.Must demonstrate knowledge or ability to learn tray service and cocktail ingredients.Must be able to lift twenty (20) pounds for extended periods of time, and grip necessary items such as glasses, garnishes, and money.Must be able to stand and walk for long periods of time as well as bend, stoop, and twist while serving cocktails.Must have excellent guest service skills and ability to work effectively in a fast paced atmosphere.Must be reliable and dependable.Must be able to work any shift, weekends, holidays, special events, and overtime, as needed.Must be able to work in a smoking environment.Must have employment eligibility in the U.S.Must be able to obtain, maintain, and retain a valid gaming license.Preferred Qualifications:Cocktail experience in a fast paced and stressful environment.Knowledge of cocktails, especially the ingredients of popular drinks and specific brands of spirits as well as wines and beers.Bilingual (English/Spanish).
