Elementary Teacher

Elementary TeacherUnder general supervision, the elementary teacher is responsible for instructing students in the field of English, math, science, and social studies and creating a safe and orderly learning environment. Reports directly to the Principal.Essential job functions include successfully demonstrating the ability to intentionally plan, implement, and evaluate standards-based instructional lesson plans designed to ensure student mastery of the appropriate grade-level skills and content. Leveraging current technology to improve efficiency and effectiveness of school operations and student performance is also required. Cooperation in developing a program of continuous progress consistent with school goals and objectives to meet the needs, interests, and abilities of pupils is essential. Keeping abreast of changes and school policies and students' needs and interests is necessary. Establishing clear and appropriate objectives for all classroom activities and communicating these objectives to students is required. Employing instructional methods and materials that are most appropriate for meeting stated objectives is essential. Assessing the accomplishments of students on a regular basis and providing progress reports as required is necessary. Analyzing progress of individual students on a regular basis and seeking appropriate assistance as needed is required. Cooperation with other members of the staff in planning instructional goals, objectives, and methods is essential. Creating a classroom environment that is conducive to learning and appropriate to the maturity and interests of pupils is required. Planning and supervising purposeful assignments for teacher aide(s) and/or volunteers and evaluating their performance is necessary. Providing adequate plans for substitute teachers is required. Seeking the cooperation and assistance of parents through oral or written communication and/or home visits is necessary. Making provisions for being available to students and parents for education-related purposes when required or requested to do so under reasonable terms is required. Maintaining accurate, complete, and correct records as required by law, school policies, and administrative regulations is necessary. Taking all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students and to properly care for all property, equipment, materials, and facilities is required. Providing for his/her own professional growth through an ongoing program of reading, workshops, seminars, conferences, and/or advanced course work at institutions of higher learning is necessary. Participating in staff development programs as assigned and/or recommended by Principal is required. Attending staff meetings, serving on staff committees as requested, and accepting a share of responsibility for co-curricular or other activities as assigned by Principal is necessary. Not abusing sick or personal leave and being absent only when it is absolutely necessary is required.General job functions include assisting the administrative team in providing an atmosphere conducive to learning and teaching. Being punctual and maintaining regular attendance is required. Having the ability to plan, organize, and prioritize daily assignments and work activities is necessary. Maintaining a clean and orderly work environment is required. Assisting in upholding and enforcing school rules, administrative regulations, and board policies is necessary. Recognizing and following the appropriate procedures in the "chain of command" as designated by board policies and/or administrative procedures is required. Operating a variety of equipment such as a computer, printer, two-way radio, telephone, calculator, etc. is necessary. Presenting a positive image of GCA at all times is required. Willingly performing other related duties as assigned by the Principal is necessary.Days of employment per school year are 190 days. Education and experience include South Carolina Elementary certification.Minimum qualifications or standards required to perform essential job functions include knowledge of the policies, procedures, and activities of the school pertaining to the specific duties and responsibilities of the position. Knowledge in the methods for developing lesson plans and materials, and classroom activities that stimulate learning is required. Knowledge of the records, forms, and reports that must be prepared and maintained is necessary. Knowledge of proper maintenance of equipment, materials, and supplies used in daily activities is required. Knowledge of counseling methods necessary for handling student academic and adjustment problems is necessary. Knowledge of the materials and information which must be prepared for classroom instructional activities is required.Skills/effort include the ability to provide instruction to students through explanation, demonstration, and/or supervised practice. Ability to supervise students and maintain order in various classroom and instructional activities and situations is required. Ability to prepare lesson plans, assessments, and instructional materials for classroom activities is necessary. Ability to identify student adjustments and/or academic problems, provide counseling and/or recommend appropriate remedial action to parents is required. Ability to communicate effectively with students and their parents, all staff members, and all other groups involved in the activities of the job is necessary. Ability to operate general office equipment in the performance of daily activities is required.Working conditions include conducting duties in a classroom environment with no significant exposure to environmental conditions. Requires ability to work under a degree of stress-related duties that require constant attention and working with students. Physical demands are restricted to classroom work requiring lifting/moving of items up to 50 pounds. Occasional local travel is required; no overnight travel is required.
