Family Law Paralegal/Legal Practice Assistant Hybrid Position
Job DescriptionBurr & Forman LLP is seeking qualified candidates for a full-time family law paralegal/legal practice assistant hybrid position in the Tampa, FL office. The successful candidate will assist attorneys through the performance of sophisticated, and often, complex family law matters and perform paralegal and administrative duties requiring both paralegal and administrative assistant/legal secretary experience. Knowledge and experience in litigation and a good working knowledge of the legal process are required. Family law experience is preferred.KEY CONTRIBUTIONSPerform paralegal and administrative duties requiring knowledge of legal process and procedures for managing a case from start to finish. Draft and edit motions, pleadings, orders, notices, correspondence and other similar documents. File motions, pleadings, briefs, and other filings in state, federal, and appellate courts as needed. Prepare discovery requests and responses; prepare draft answers to interrogatories, requests for admissions, subpoenas, etc. Index, organize, and maintain large amounts of documents. Prepare trial exhibits and notebooks, and witness subpoenas. Proofread and cite check briefs and other legal documents. Assist attorney with preparation for depositions, hearings, mediations, and trials. Shepardize cases and perform occasional legal research using a variety of resources such as Westlaw. Maintain and manage calendars for applicable court deadlines and appearances. Communicate with clients, experts, and attorneys as needed. Other responsibilities as needed. The EssentialsA bachelor’s degree, paralegal degree or certification, and/or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Three or more years of family law paralegal experience. Knowledge of Rules of Family Law and Civil Procedures, state and federal court procedures, and electronic filing and signature processes. Proficiency with Microsoft Word and Outlook; working knowledge of Excel, and knowledge of e-discovery. Highly organized, detail-orientated, and proactive, with a desire to take ownership as a contributing member of the team. Balance competing priorities and work effectively in a fast-paced environment, exercising patience and professionalism during stressful situations. Excellent client and interpersonal skills. Strong communication and drafting skills. Some overtime may be required.
