Mechanical Engineer

Hydroplane, a sustainable aviation climate tech startup, is seeking a highly motivated mechanical engineer to join our team. This role offers the opportunity to work on cutting-edge fuel cell sustainable aircraft electric propulsion and ground power systems. The candidate will be responsible for design, integration, and test of a variety of mechanical systems.The selected candidate will work independently gaining hands-on experience designing mechanical systems, prototype building and integration into aircraft systems, and testing fuel cell systems. The candidate will also be actively involved in flight testing and certification testing. This position provides a environment to develop technical expertise, contribute to sustainability-focused projects, and be part of a team shaping the future of aviation.Key ResponsibilitiesDevelop and oversee mechanical system designsCoordinate the integration of mechanical components into aircraft systems, ensuring compliance with safety and performance standardsBuild prototypes, conduct testing, and refine designs based on performance dataParticipate actively in flight testing and certification processes to validate system functionality and safetyMonitor project progress, identify potential issues, and implement solutions proactivelyQualificationsBachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or an equivalent fieldMinimum of 3 years of experience in mechanical engineering, preferably within aerospace or related industriesProficiency in reading and interpreting technical drawings, schematics, and design documentsStrong problem-solving skills and critical thinking abilityExperience with CAD software, specifically Fusion 360 or similar platformsPassion for aircraft design and sustainable aviation technologiesRecommended Skills & AttributesFamiliarity with fuel cell technology and electric propulsion systemsExperience with prototype development and testing in aerospace applicationsKnowledge of aircraft certification standards and regulatory requirementsExcellent organizational skills and ability to manage multiple projects simultaneouslyStrong communication skills
