ABOUT GIRLS 4 SCIENCE
Girls 4 Science is the only free, year-round, non-selective out-of-school-time STEM program for girls in the Chicago region. The mission of Girls 4 Science is to enrich the lives of girls through early exposure to the study of science, technology, engineering and math and women of color practicing in STEM fields; and through hands-on problem-based learning and mentorship for careers in STEM fields. Girls 4 Science designed an innovative program model to address the lack of accessible, quality science programs for female youth with its Saturday STEM Academy.
The Saturday STEM Academy is offered four times per year (Winter, Spring, Summer, Fall) at three locations: Malcolm X City College on Chicago’s west side, Chicago High School for Agricultural Sciences in the far south Greenwood neighborhood and Joliet Junior College in Joliet. A different STEM topic is presented in each six-week session. The two-hour high school and elementary school programs run concurrently at each location with age-appropriate curriculum presented by Program Coordinators, who are women with STEM backgrounds.
