Please apply only if you are confident in your technical abilities and hands-on experience.Job SummaryWe are seeking a Senior API Developer with deep expertise in distributed systems to design, build, and operate large-scale, high-throughput backend services that power mission-critical workloads. In this role you will architect the core platforms that other engineering teams build on, focusing on scalability, reliability, performance, and clean engineering practices. The ideal candidate will combine strong fundamentals in computer science with practical, battle-tested experience operating distributed systems at scale, and will be comfortable navigating the trade-offs between consistency, availability, and latency.Key ResponsibilitiesDesign and implement large-scale distributed backend systems using Java, Go, Scala, or similar high-performance languagesArchitect data partitioning, replication, and consistency strategies appropriate to each workload’s requirementsBuild resilient APIs and event-driven services with strong observability, idempotency, and graceful degradation patternsOptimize systems for latency, throughput, and cost, using profiling, benchmarking, and load testingLead detailed architecture reviews, technical design discussions, and trade-off analysesImplement robust failure-handling patterns including retries, timeouts, circuit breakers, bulkheads, and saga workflowsDesign and operate data stores at scale, including relational, key-value, document, and search enginesBuild comprehensive observability into services with structured logs, metrics, and distributed tracingDrive incident response and post-incident learning for critical backend servicesMentor mid-level engineers and lead by example in code quality, design, and operational rigorPartner with SRE and platform teams to drive reliability improvements and reduce operational toilContribute to long-term architecture and platform strategy, helping shape multi-year technical roadmaps and ensuring near-term execution remains aligned with the broader engineering directionMaintain comprehensive, current technical documentation — including architecture diagrams, design decisions, configuration references, runbooks, and operational procedures — so that the system remains supportable, auditable, and easy to onboard new engineers onto over timeRequired QualificationsBachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science or a related disciplineSix or more years of professional backend engineering experience, with significant time on distributed systemsStrong programming skills in Java, Go, Scala, or similarDeep understanding of distributed systems concepts, including consensus, replication, and CAP trade-offsHands-on experience with high-throughput message systems such as KafkaExperience operating systems at scale, including capacity planning and performance tuningStrong SQL skills and experience with both relational and NoSQL data storesHands-on experience with major cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, or GCP)Strong debugging and root-cause analysis skillsExcellent communication, documentation, and mentorship skillsPreferred QualificationsExperience leading complex technical initiatives across multiple teamsHands-on experience with Kubernetes-based platforms in productionExposure to service-mesh technologies (Istio, Linkerd)Familiarity with chaos engineering practices and toolsOpen-source contributions to relevant distributed systems projectsHow To ApplyWould you like to know more about this opportunity?For immediate consideration, please send your resume to jaya@bvteck.com or contact us at (908) 505-3545.
