The Office of Field Experiences of the Ella Cline Shear School of Education at SUNY Geneseo seeks applicants for adjunct clinical faculty to supervise and mentor undergraduate teacher candidates in their capstone student teaching experience within a 50-mile radius of Geneseo.The School of Education has a long and rich history of preparing teachers who are knowledgeable, skilled in their instructional practice, passionate about their work, and motivated to provide leadership within their profession. The School of Education offers undergraduate programs leading to initial certification in Childhood Education (1-6), Early Childhood Education (birth-2), Teaching Students with Disabilities (All Grades), and Adolescence Education (7-12) in English, Math, Science, Social Studies, and World Languages (French and Spanish).Our priority is teaching excellence: we seek someone with a strong commitment to the field of education who is prepared to supervise, mentor, and support teacher candidates and serve as a liaison between the College and school site(s). A commitment to, and experience in, working effectively with students and educators from diverse backgrounds is essential.Primary responsibilities for this position include:Supervising student teachers in your area of certification(s)Evaluating course assignments, which are completed as part of the student teaching experienceMentoring student teachers through the formal observation processObserve and gather assessment data on lessons conducted by student teachers at various school sitesOffer experienced and objective perspectives on overall classroom effectivenessProvide descriptive feedback on a student teacher's execution of professional responsibilities (lesson planning, implementation and assessment, classroom interaction, maintenance of records)Provide guidance and support in student teacher development of consistent classroom management practices conducive to learning, which promote respect for others and for cultural and linguistic diversitySupport student teachers relate teaching theory to classroom practiceProvide guidance and resources tailored to the needs of each teacher candidateConducting a final evaluation for each teacher candidate to determine proficiency in four areas: Planning & Preparation, Learning Environment, Instruction, and ProfessionalismProviding a minimum of two seminars per student teaching placementServing as a liaison between the College and school/district sites and supporting cooperating teachers during the student teaching experienceStudent teaching supervisors are expected to travel to assigned school sites and must provide their own transportation. Mileage is reimbursed at the state rate.Note, that this is a part-time position. The salary is $666.67 per student teaching placement, with a range in supervisor responsibility of four to twelve placements per semester.Required QualificationsRequired QualificationsBachelor's or master's degree in educationProfessional or permanent state-issued certification in an education fieldFive or more years of successful P-12 teaching and/or administrative experienceKnowledge of research-based practices and strategiesKnowledge of content area curricula and standardsExcellent communication skills, both written and oralDemonstrated commitment to fostering equity, inclusion, and belongingness in the classroom and workplaceDemonstrated commitment to the field of educationPreferred QualificationsPreferred Qualifications:State-issued certification in education administrationExperience hosting/mentoring a student teacherPrevious supervisory/mentoring experienceExperience with Google platform, teleconferencing (e.g., Zoom, Microsoft Teams, Google Meet), and use of learning management systems (e.g., Brightspace, TaskStream, TK20)
