DescriptionJoin a student-centered English faculty team committed to helping learners build confidence and skill as writers and communicators. This full-time role includes a 5–5 teaching load during fall and spring semesters (with summers off) and involves teaching both face-to-face and online courses. Faculty use a few common assessments across sections while maintaining flexibility in course design. Teaching responsibilities may include Composition I, Composition II, and Writing for the Workplace.We are seeking an engaging, student-focused instructor who values active learning, writing as a process, and supportive feedback that promotes growth. The ideal candidate is committed to serving diverse and underresourced student populations, fostering inclusive and interactive classroom environments, and contributing to a collaborative department dedicated to student success. Opportunities for overload (additional classes) are available after the first year.Job DutiesThis position is responsible for teaching classes as assigned by the academic deanMust evaluate and report student performances and progress in courses in accordance with college and division policies and proceduresMust meet Minimum Faculty Standards for hire and adhere to college policies and proceduresThe instructor will promote, develop, and deliver quality education programs with the intent to retain students to graduationDemonstrate IWCC’s core mission, vision, and valuesMeet minimum expectations for use of the College Learning Management System (post the syllabus to the course page by college deadlines, record student attendance, and maintain an accurate and current gradebook for all graded course activities) and for reports (roster verification, 5th week and 10th week progress reports, final grades, and course assessments)Collaborate with department and academic dean to develop and revise course and program curricula Assess and document student learning outcomes in courses each term in accordance with college policies and proceduresCollaborate with the department to analyze assessment of student learning data and develop plans for continuous improvementParticipate in department, division, and college meetings Organize and teach labs as assigned by the academic deanComplete required professional development and trainingsExhibit a positive and professional demeanor with all members of the college and community, contributing to a productive and growth-oriented work environmentPromote, model, and enforce academic integrityBe available to answer student questions outside of class time (student conferences can be held on campus in a designated student conferencing space or via phone, web conferencing, or email)Help students achieve their educational and career goalsRefer students to college resourcesMaintain confidentiality in accordance with FERPA and Title IX regulations Adhere to safety policies and proceduresActively participate in college life and activities, such as shared governance, student organizations, and commencement ceremoniesOther duties as assigned, which may include:Review faculty credentials in consultation with the academic deanReview student transcripts upon requestAssist with instructor orientationsAssist the college with accreditation standardsQualificationsTo teach arts and science courses:Master’s degree is requiredAt least 12 graduate credit hours in the discipline (English)Excellent verbal and written communication skills and ability to articulate in both small and large group settings and with diverse groups of people including co-workers, students, business contacts and at various levels from front-line to administrationStrong organizational skills including the ability to multitask, to meet deadlines, to maintain and access paper and electronic files, to produce error-free final products, and to manage time and outputExcellent customer service skillsProficient use of Microsoft Office products (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Teams)Ability to read, write, and speak English fluentlyEnthusiastic and dedicated to the challenges of helping other peopleAbility to function collaboratively as part of a fast-paced, customer-oriented teamProfessional in communication, appearance, relationships, and responsivenessPositive attitudeSelf-starter with the ability to perform with little or no direct supervisionAbility to pass a background checkPhysical DemandsPhysical Demands Of Essential FunctionsThe employee frequently is required to sit for extended periods of time and use hands to operate computer keyboard, telephone and basic office equipmentWhile performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk and hearAbility to drive company owned or personal vehicle.Ability to lift up to 10lbsCognitive Requirements: (as presently performed to accomplish essential functions)Reading, Writing, CalculatingSocial Interaction SkillsReasoning/AnalysisWorks with Minimal SupervisionComprehensive benefits package, including employer paid medical, dental, life; HSA with a match, IPERS pension plan with over 9% employer match, free access to our new wellness facility, employee concierge services, and many other voluntary benefits to choose from.
