Fell Brewery - Tech Consultant

Role & Department OverviewFell Brewery is a small, independent brewery founded in 2013 and rooted in Cumbria. The company operates several venues as well as micro-brewery production and delivery to suppliers. Sustainability is fundamental to Fell Brewery and is at the heart of business operations and strategy. Having entered its second decade of trading, the business is beginning to slowly mature. As such, the team is focused on finding long term solutions to making daily operation more systematic and straightforward.Fell Brewery uses a specialist web-based brewery management system which is designed specifically for micro-breweries. The system records all business operations including sales, inventory, warehousing, deliveries and production data. It also integrates with several other specialist software packages. As the system has been used for several years, there is a huge amount of data available but the data analysis package is very crude and the data is not presented in a useful format. Ultimately, Fell Brewery would like to develop add on systems which present the data in a way which is useful to inform business decisions and focus team efforts. This internship will begin this process by providing an audit of Fell Brewery’s technical systems and processes. This will involve reviewing the company’s tech set up, speaking with staff and deep diving into systems being used.This project is supported by Westmorland and Furness Council through the UK Shared Prosperity Fund. Preferred start date: 21st of October 2024 Expected end date: 15th of December 2024 Interview date: 8th of October 2024 Weekly hours: Around 15-30 (flexible - total of 130 hours available) Location: Remotely (in the UK), on the Lancaster University campus and at the premises of an external employerJob DescriptionActivities within the internship will include: Auditing company technology – where are the vulnerabilities? What can be done to mitigate these? Undertake a feasibility study which explores alternative technologies or systems that can be plugged in, added on or supplement the current system. Recommend specific tools or technologies that can be utilised with the end goal of improved data visualisation. Solutions must be compatible with the current system and be easily maintained by non-specialists. Time allowing, some development work based on the above could be appropriate. Person SpecificationThe successful candidate should be able to demonstrate the following: Applicants should be self-motivated Should ideally have a good understanding of business systems, tools and technologies which could be investigated during this internship. You should be comfortable undertaking independent work as well as working alongside colleagues to ensure recommendations are suitable.
