Construction Manager
DescriptionMATRIX is seeking an experienced and proactive Construction Manager to lead the planning and execution of hydro-electric related construction projects. This role is responsible for developing detailed construction plans, coordinating closely with engineering teams, and making critical construction decisions before and during project execution to ensure safety, efficiency, and quality.DURATION: 6 months with possible extensionLOCATION: Pike Island Lock and Dam which is the fifth lock and dam on the Ohio River, located in Yorkville, Ohio 84 miles downstream of PittsburghESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS & RESPONSIBLITIES:Construction PlanningDevelop comprehensive construction plans, schedules, and methodologies for hydro infrastructure projectsIdentify resource requirements, sequencing, and risk factors ahead of constructionReview design documents and provide constructability input during pre-construction phasesEngineering CoordinationCollaborate with engineering teams to align design intent with field executionResolve design conflicts and provide practical construction solutionsEnsure all construction activities comply with engineering specifications and standardsProject Execution & Decision-MakingLead field operations and oversee day-to-day construction activitiesMake key construction decisions in real time to address site conditions, delays, or unforeseen challengesAdjust plans proactively to maintain schedule, budget, and safety targetsStakeholder ManagementCoordinate with contractors, subcontractors, and vendorsCommunicate project updates, risks, and solutions to internal and external stakeholdersEnsure alignment across all project teamsSafety & ComplianceEnforce safety protocols and ensure compliance with all regulatory and environmental requirementsPromote a strong safety culture across all construction activitiesQuality ControlMonitor construction quality and ensure adherence to project specificationsConduct inspections and implement corrective actions as neededQUALIFICATIONS:REQUIRED:Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, or related field (or equivalent work experience)5+ years of construction management experience, preferably in infrastructure, energy, or hydro projectsStrong understanding of construction methods, scheduling, and project deliveryProven ability to make sound decisions in dynamic field environmentsExcellent communication and coordination skillsFamiliarity with relevant safety and regulatory standardsPREFERRED:Experience with hydroelectric or water infrastructure projectsProficiency in construction management software and scheduling tools (e.g., Primavera, MS Project)Strong leadership and team management capabilities
