Summary Job Description: The Residential Counselor provides supportive services directly to participants of WestBridge’s residential program. The program provides treatment to individuals who experience severe and persistent mental illness and substance use disorders in order to maximize their recovery. Staff work to ensure consumer-directed goal setting, assist the individual served to gain hope and a sense of empowerment, and provide assistance in helping the individuals served become respected and valued members of their family and community. Residential Counselors are assessed for their scope of practice based on experience, education and observation of skill. All Residential Counselors are supervised by a multidisciplinary team of licensed clinical staff. The Residential Counselor may also receive supervision by the Residential Lead Clinician, although ultimately reports to the Residential Director. Primary Duties: Clinical duties are based on scope of practice and experience; they could include but are not limited to evaluation, assessment, individual and group counseling, Family Education and Support, clinical updates, and case management for individuals and their families. Shared responsibility amongst the team as a designated point person; this entails overseeing participant’s care in relation to their Personal Achievement Agenda (PAA), advocacy, collaboration and documentation responsibilities including integrated clinical summaries (biopsychosocial) for new participants based on information gathered during the evaluation phase. Collaboratively support the residential milieu & uphold principles of a modified therapeutic community. Actively Participates in open, direct, solution-focused communication with participants, families and team members. Work side by side with participants to engage in activities that include but are not limited to housekeeping duties, hygiene, wellness, recreation and other recovery-oriented community activities. Ongoing assessment of participants for changes in symptoms associated with mental health diagnosis and substance use disorders, and provides crisis intervention as needed. This is done under direct clinical supervision and based on one’s scope of practice as identified by WestBridge Work collaboratively with other members of residential, care management, and administrative staff to design, implement, and revise intervention strategies. Engages in tasks that support the safety of the residential environment; this includes but is not limited to perimeter checks, rounds, drug screening, etc. These are all done in accordance to WestBridge policies and procedures. Documents services provided in accordance with WestBridge policies and systems. Participates in new participant outreach visits (“meet and greet”). Travel may be required. Work schedule will be Mon-Fri 7:30-3:30, with one weekend worked/month, and will collaborate with the team for holiday coverage Requirements: Knowledge obtained through completion of a Master's degree curriculum in appropriate discipline or combination of Bachelor's degree and work experience. Knowledge and experience in the treatment of mental illness and substance-use, preferably co-occurring. Experience in the delivery of evidence-based practice desired. Knowledge and skill in maintaining care that is trauma-informed and recovery-oriented. This may include experience working in a modified therapeutic community. Knowledge of state and federal rules and regulations governing confidentiality. Knowledge of local, state and federal program administration regulations. Skill in working and communicating with others as part of a multi-disciplinary team. Demonstrates a high standard of professional conduct and ethical behavior that will enhance the quality of care and encourage positive interactions among staff. Valid drivers’ license and appropriate vehicle insurance coverage of: 100,000 bodily injury per person/300,000 bodily injury per accident/100,000 property damage. Computer skills including but not limited to, Internet access, word processing, report writing and spreadsheet applications necessary to generate appropriate reports allocated to the position of Residential Counselor.
