Commits to ongoing learning and evidence based best practices. B. Attends & participates at all unit meetings. C. Presents/leads some elements of staff meetings. D. Participates in division or hospital committee/project (supportive role). E. Supervises unit in Nurse Manager’s (NM) absence. F. Promotes ethical decision making. G. Provides an awareness and attentiveness to individual and cultural differences. H. Understands & communicates the organizational goals and strategic plan to staff. I. Maintains communication and remains current with emails, etc. 2. CUSTOMER SERVICE A. Promotes/ensures customer service standards are met & exceeded. B. Performs daily Rounding with patients. C. Promotes family centered care. D. Ensures service recovery and patient follow-up. E. Promotes physician greeting & check-in. F. Manages up unit staff and other departments to patients & families. G. Verifies continuous improvement in patient satisfaction scores. 3. CONTINUOUS IMPROVEMENT A. Coordinates staff assignments (Continuity of assignments, matching acuity/talent/skills). B. Demonstrates thorough understanding of policies and procedures. C. Schedules timely and thorough follow-up for Patient Safety Alerts (PSA). D. Promotes quality projects (house wide and unit based). E. Actively involved with high risk patient issues and plan of care, intervention as needed. F. Completes audits and appropriate staff follow-up and compliance. G. Verifies unit Compliance with National Patient Safety Goals (NPSG), Core Measures and Nurse Sensitive Indicators is demonstrated. 4. PATIENT FLOW A. Conducts timely patient bed placement. B. Facilitates door to treatment time. C. Facilitates efficient discharges & transfers. 5. LEARNING ENVIRONMENT & REWARD EXCELLENCE A. Performs daily rounding on staff. B. Promotes and participates in shared decision making. C. Participates in positive reinforcement & staff recognition – private and public. D. Actively participates in performance management of staff within the moment coaching for high, medium and low performers. E. Holds staff accountable to high standards of patient care and professional conduct. F. Promotes education and certification to strengthen knowledge and meet current and future goals. G. Ensures educational sharing following conference attendance. H. Completes timely and meaningful staff performance appraisals. I. Assists NM with interviews and other projects as delegated. J. Assists NM with new employee/new grad RN on boarding. 6. RESOURCES MANAGEMENT A. Schedules staff – balanced for competency and numbers. B. Maintains productivity- in alignment with budget for Hours Per Patient (HPPD). C. Accounts for unit Overtime (OT) – continuous decline in OT. D. Manages patient volume. E. Audits timecards for accuracy & timeliness. F. Responsible for oversight of the Charge Capture review program. G. Tracks staff absenteeism & corrective action as indicated. 7. UNIT SAFETY MANAGEMENT A. Reports & follows up on identified issues (cleanliness, physical environment and equipment failure). B. Performs unit safety checks. C. Ensures hallways are clear. D. Maintains availability of equipment and supplies. E. Works collaboratively with Charge Nurse and staff to facilitate breaks and lunches. Other Information Supervises the following roles: Registered Nurses (RNs), Certified Nursing Assistants (CNAs), Certified Unit Assistants (CUAs), Unit Clerks, and other staff as assigned. Experience: 1. Two (2) years minimum acute care RN experience required. 2. Charge RN experience (desirable). 3. Certification in specialty or management preferred. Special knowledge, skills, & abilities: 1. Knowledge and application of principles of administration, supervision and management. 2. Individual should possess thorough knowledge and skill in techniques of specialty area. 3. Above average communication and human relations skills; ability to relate well with others. 4. Commensurate with educational preparation and area of assignment; demonstrates knowledge and ability to apply age-specific principles of growth and development and life stages to meet the specific needs of patients served. 5. Knowledge of medical terminology and basic clinical skills. 6. Ability to work effectively under pressure and to use professional judgment in emergency situations. 7. Must have basic computer knowledge and keyboarding skills. 8. Ability to collaborate and work in a team environment. 9. Ability to serve as team leader. 10. Ability to communicate clearly and constructively-written and verbal. (Legible handwriting, accurate spelling, clear enunciation, well modulated voice). 11. Must have organizational and delegation skills. Education Essential: Bachelor of Science - Nursing (BSN) - Consideration will be given to ADN nurse if agree to complete BSN or MSN within three (3) years of hire into the position. Must sign agreement regarding BSN completion. Must obtain BSN within the 3 years to remain in the ANM position. Note: ANMs who were hired as an ADN prior to June 2023 and remain in the ANM role, are not required to obtain BSN Credentials Essential: Basic Life Support - Registered Nurse - Current unencumbered license to practice nursing as a Registered Nurse in the State of Oregon required.
